I Earned This Salted Caramel Gold

For weeks, no make that months, randall and i have been putting off our garage cleaning duties. We're lucky enough to have a place in San Francisco that actually has a garage, and believe me we've taken advantage of it by shoving all sorts of things into it. Unfortunately we learned last winter that it retains water when it rains heavily. While we had thrown out the sad waterlogged boxes a long time ago, we never got around to actually organizing things. So today we spent nearly the entire day in the garage. It's not amazing, but it's getting closer.

The worst part is that even though I was the one who designated today as garage day, I tried to get us out of it by suggesting a drive up the coast or something more fun. Sadly randall decided to play the adult and made us spend the day with dust and cardboard. Afterwards I decided that all the hard work earned us a cone at Bi-Rite creamery. However once again randall played the adult and told me that I had to eat dinner first. Luckily the grocery store sells their delicious ice cream by the pint, so I was able to eat dinner and then enjoy my treat at home.

Bi-Rite Salted Caramel, I heart you!

I know matters of taste are not to be disputed and that they are subjective, but I think you might enjoy hearing that my friend and I created what might be the Holy Grail of sundaes:

Salted Caramel ice cream
Morello Cherries (from Trader Joes and not too sweet)
Home made chocolate sauce from "How to Cook Everything" (freakin' amazing and easy)
Sliced bananas popped into the pot of chocolate sauce as we were warming it back up

I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I have dragged both of my children in both rain and blazing sun to Bi-Rite. I too acknowledge the greatness of the Salted Caramel.

dani - that sounds like an amazing sundae!! also, your kids are lucky to be dragged out to ice cream.

finally a tip for all - try adding kettle corn to your salted caramel ice cream - salty/sweet x2 = double delicious!
