every day's a new dumb adventure

Working hard for the money

It was a fun, if not slightly hectic, day bustling about ny. I checked
into the gramercy park hotel and immediately had to leave. Mostly
because I was meeting Melissa at Barneys (meeting not shopping spree)
but also because I hate my dark dungeon of a room. Melissa calls this
place the adult haunted house, Brian calls it the true blood hotel,
but both of their rooms sound better than mine. They at least face
outwards. I face some buildings and literally can't be in the room
without lights on, it is so dark. And the lighting is mostly
yellowtinted overhead, two things I really can't deal with. Hence
dungeon hotel room that I hate and had to leave asap. (note: I even
tried to upgrade to anything else and I never do that at hotels.
Another note: nothing else was available.)

After barneys I walked around a bit, declared it too humid, and then
spent a good hour playing telephone games with the fine folks at the
new york fire department. (long story invloving flammable tablecloths
and convention halls.) I eventually talked to "the encyclopedia of
fire info" who told me what I needed to hear. Unfortunately, it wasn't
what I wanted to hear, and so I spent another half hour chasing down
more info.

Once telephone hijinx came to an end, I hustled back to shoppingville
to meet Melissa at saks. Again, meetings, not shopping (although I did
pop in to check out their shoe sale. What can I say? I blame ny.
Thankfully I remembered my sf hills and opted not to buy anything).

Afterwards we met up with the ny crew for happy hour. We started at
the Campbell apartment in grand central, then at brasserie 44 and then
somewhere for eating. I actually have no idea where. I didn't even
look at a menu I just told the waiter to order me his favorite dish.
It was some sort of crabcake, and I think it was tasty, I scarfed it
down, so hope it was. I should mention this was honestly the first
thing I had eaten in about 22 hours (if you don't count the olives in
melissa's bloody Mary). I was also about 4 cocktails in. You do the
math on that one. I mean i wasn't falling down messy, but I was
collegekid loud and unaware for sure (really don't remember going to
dinner). But, in the end i was working hard. Here's proof. Even during
dinner Ali and I show just how very hard we work.

Ps. If you don't get the joke, you obviously aren't playing enough
popsugar's retail therapy.

Pps. All this and I had a celebrity sighting. Russel brand, Helen
mirren, and Luis guzman were filming Arthur on the street outside of
grand central.
