Borrowed time

This evening a gang of us headed over to the metreon for the popsugar screening of something borrowed. I brought Aki as my plus one (good idea dk!) and we both thought it was ridiculous. I mean I knew it wasn't going to really be my thing, but I didn't expect it to turn out the way it did. Nor did I expect the characters to be so annoying. But, a few of the gals who read the book thought it was cute and true tomthe books, so hey to each their own.

Afterwards aki and I headed to fraiche for froyo dinner. I'm off the candy and cookies for a while, but natural flavored yogurt with compote is a-okay. The thing that wasn't a-okay was the ticket Aki got as we left the parking garage. Folks, don't turn left outta that garage. It's apparently illegal and there was a cop there hiding in the dark waiting. Booooo on that.

Ps. Loving my Angelica Lauren lunches! This one was postponed several times but we finally found a day where it worked for all of us. The best part was that we chanced into a gorgeous day with outdoor eating even. Again again!

Let me introduce you to the magic of the salonpas

When I was growing up I always thought my mom had an odd mentholy
smell. She also always had weird patches on her arms. It wasn't until
I was older that I realized the two things were related. You see she
was a fan of salonpas. I always thought they were weird. I mean
essentially they are mentholy patches that give off an icy hot
feeling. Think of it as Ben gay in a sticker. And now, some 20 years
later, I think they're awesome. After the dumb moto accident last
week, my right arm is crazy sore. Thankfully salonpas is working it's
awesome magic.

all dressed up with nowhere to go

it's another nerd friday in our house. we were going to go out to dinner, but we've been eating out a lot lately, and i wasn't very hungry after work. then we were then going to go out for drinks, but randall was too hungry for just bar snacks. we thought about a movie but see also the hungry thing. so we went home. randall ate dinner, i drank hard cider. then randall napped and i ate cheese and crackers. so much for a night on the town. but that's okay, it's been a busy week.

in other news, we made a quick stop to costco today to pick up one of those emergency food kits and disaster backpacks. i feel relatively prepared, but am going through some mental "surely big one is coming we are not prepared enough" feelings and think we could be even more prepared. although really what good is a bucket of food that needs water we won't have in order to work, especially when it's going to be buried in the garage?

eight two six of one half a dozen of the other

tonight was the first session for 826 valencia's bayfarer issue 30. it's a 5 week newspaper writing workshop for 8-12 year olds, and i've volunteered to tutor. last time my reporter (they're reporters, us adults are editors) was the nerdy straight A overachiever student. This time i was paired with the rowdiest kids in the class. they couldn't sit still, they couldn't focus, and they had absolutely no idea what they were going to write about. the other two boys at the table couldn't stop laughing, and the other girl was the quietest person i've ever met. seriously she was like this loud. it was almost like she could only mouth words and had no vocal chords. she was cute though, i can't wait to see what she writes. can't wait to see what they all come up with.

The pains of being pure at heart (and mind)

Tonight April (seen in the shadows) treated me to a night at the
rickshaw stop. The pains of being pure at heart were playing and all
the hip kids (literally, some of these kids were so young) were at the
sold out show. Burger and Hugh and co were also there (Hugh is
labelmates with the pains), like I said, all the hip kids.

At one point I made burger and April pose outside in the rickshaw.
Sadly, that pole blocked April's face. Which I suppose is sort of
fitting because you see, April had a shitty night. At one point she
set her purse down and it made me uncomfortable (because I am crazy
paranoid and can never leave things unattended), so I told her to move
it over by me. She went to do it but alas it was gone! In her defense,
it was right next to us and I am still sort of flabbergasted on how it
all happened. Booooooo. I'm sads for April. That really sucks. It also
put a damper on the rest of the night (it happened right before the
pains) making it hard to have fun. Boo on you thieves, boo.

Ps. This pic is b&w because I was trying to find a photo app that
would make it look xeroxed-like to match the pains' coverart but
didn't get to finish my search thanks to jerkface thieves.

Pps. The pains sounded pretty good epic like, but were maybe too clean/
tight? I enjoyed it, but they didn't seem like they were having enough
fun. Hugh said he thought they were "airtight" -- I think he liked
them better before they were big.

Ppps. Apes, I hope your purse randomly turns up.thieves suck
