Let me tell you a thing or two about me

Jan 11, 2011

I've secretly got the blues (not to mention a good lunch date)

My pal Laura worked her hair art magic once again, but this time we went to our college years and added some color. Only unlike college, I didn't want something that was pachow! in your face. So we worked up something a little more subtle. Well, as subtle as blue can be. That's right, blue. It's only an underlayer, so I should be able to play it up when needed, or keep it cool when I have to be a grownup.

Speaking of being a grownup, Angelica and I had a lunch date today. We sat down at a restaurant and chatted even. Of course, I should mention that it took us over two months to arrange this, but I'm glad we persisted.

my style inspiration must be some cartoon

I don't know which one, but there are definitely days where i am
pretty sure I look like a cartoon character. Today was one of those
days. My new old sears dress (score for $7), red shoes, and gold
headband pretty much scream animated.

After work I stopped by banana republic to see what my luck might
bring. Unfortunately there wasn't any cartoon character appropriate
clothing, however there was free wine, pomtinis, and raspberry
cheesecake tarts. No seriously, free drinks at BR. My 22 year old self
would've been pretty stoked. Oh who am I kidding, my 32 year old self
was pretty stoked too. And yes I did just use the word stoked.

Pizza party

Before this evening's skee ball game, Laura and I grabbed a slice at
nizario's. The crust is bready good, but pizza is overall just so so.
It also does not, for the record, contain any sort of magic skeeball
powers. In fact it might be the opposite. My game was terrible
tonight. I had a lot of excuses but truth is I just sucked it. We had
last week off and the lack of practice showed. I rolled as if I hadn't
ever skee'd before. Sorry ordinay skeeple, I clearly need a do over!

impromptu dinner party

the office today was a literal sweatshop. we're on the 15th floor and have direct sun shining on us all day. it's normally not an issue, but on hot days like today, it's misery. we all wilt and sweat and melt to our seats. because of this, i left early. at 5:15 i couldn't take it anymore and headed home. with the extra bit of time (for comparison sake, i left the office after 7 yesterday), i decided to cook dinner. i picked up a bunch of great veggies at the farmer's market and decided to roast them, puree them and turn them into a delicious soup. yes, i know, soup on a hot day is stupid. but it's so delicious and besides fresh chicken tortilla soup is really a summer soup. if the veggies aren't delicious and ripe, then the soup is bland. lucky for me, the veggies were great. and lucky for samshrew and chris, i knew there'd be extra, so i invited them over. they're our go-to meat-eater pals, and i don't feel the need to clean for them, so they luck out on the nomminess.

Daytripper: San Francisco Staycation

Today was absolutely peautiful, so instead of skeedaddling out of town
I decided to hang out here. First off was a delicious baked egg brunch
at nopa. (They started serving there last week, so go before everyone
finds out and then there's a long wait.) I paired the awesome food
with an equally tasty bloody mary. Afterwards Randall and I decided to
mosey on towards the lower haight to check out all the shops. It had
been a while since I'd wandered there just for shopping. While
exploring the million skateshirt gallery shops, I found myself a great
hat. I'd been nonchalantly looking for a while, but nothing seemed to
fit my giant brain. This one however fits my big ol' noggin.

New hat on top of my head I popped in and out of all the shops. I
ended up getting a cute little painting of a polar bear hobo and
another of a sleepy bird. I also stopped to check out the Stanley
donwood exhibition and the Alex pardee popup shop. The next thing I
knew we were eyeballing dogs at duboce park. They have happy hour
their and outdoor seating, who knew?

All the dog talk made us realize we should call up shin and Karen so
that Randall could meet olive. She loves to lay in the sun and was so
adorable! After a bit we took off and headed towards dolores park. We
stopped at the mission on the way as I'd never been. Services were
going on so we didn't go in the main building but did check out the
smaller chapel. I figure I look at churches in other cities why not
here?

When we were done sightseeing we headed to bi-rite to pick up food for
dinner. I went for chicken, beets, tomatoes and corn. Randall opted
for steak. I won.

On our walk home we ran into laura, our skeeball partner in crime. We
chatted for a while and then finally headed home, eating cookies on
our way.

Next up was perfectly grilled dinner in the perfect outdoors (except
for the 5 big yucky spiders that moved into the yard) and then a bit
of Dexter. Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for some beatles rock
band and if I'm lucky, a tasty drink.

Which One is the Catfish?

Although I felt a bit ridiculous going to the movies on an amazingly gorgeous evening, I was glad I went and saw Catfish. DK had hooked Randall and I up with access to tonight's screening, which was great because the filmmakers were actually there to discuss the movie. I'm thrilled for that because I really want to discuss it, but I can't. Because if you haven't seen it, you want to know nothing about it, but you want to see it. You do. And don't watch the trailer. First of all it's misleading, secondly you really want to know nothing about this movie. It's fascinating, and knowing what happens will ruin it. So just go see it.

And then afterwards, you can go get pizza. That's what i did.

Ps. Randall says his double photo action here is like this mini countryman commercial. I thought the countryman was cool a while back, then i thought it was too big and not worth it, but man after seeing this commercial i have to say, they sure are cute as a swarm.

Sayonara Nicole!

Today was nicole's last day, and so we sent her off in the only way we
know how: with food. Our gang rounded up and headed to seller's market
where we fought a lady for a table (Julie was about to throw down) and
split a cookie that never ended (it was like jesus bread). It was a
good outing and I realized we should do it more often, not just when
someone says farewell. I mean how else would we learn about piranhas
and freeway shootouts and more?

Nicole, we wish you the best of luck! Do keep in touch!

The ladies have a very important meeting

For weeks Julie has been asking to have her life fulfilled (aka eat a
tasty lunch), so today reiko, Julie, and I headed over to tea garden
for some taiwanese niu roh mian (beef noodle soup). While there we
chatted about our moms and slurped up the noodles. Julie told us a
story about how her mom called her once at 11pm asking where she was
because a lady doesn't stay out like that. Oh moms, ladies do stay
out, they also eat soup. Lots of yummy soup.
