Summercats get the pork belly

Today flew by superfast style, especially the part where we played
musical chairs at work. For some reason I thought musical chairs would
last about 20 minutes, but instead it took me about an hour and a half
to get fully settled in. It was also hot and sweat and grumpytown and
I hated dealing with it. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the new
seat, I just hated dealing with the move. Also all the new peeps make
it feel like a completely different company and I think the work
environment is going to change 100%. The vibe is way different, like a
new school. I hope its just until we get the new folks talking. And if
they're not talkers, the wuhoh, they're gonna hate us.

After work Julie, Erin, and I took the dirty 30 down to fort mason for
another round of off the grid. This time it was banana fritters,
malaysian crepes, chairman bao pork buns, scallion pancakes, dim sum,
empanadas, and paella. Randall was wearing the summercats tshirt and
all of the ladies loved him. Seriously, every gal at the chairman bao
truck was swooning.

Ps. Trying out some new painting apps. I hate drawing with my finger
and wish there was a good stylus instead. Anyone got one?

Monday Me-day

My amount of PTO is creeping up to the max again, and I've been so
oddly busy lately that my house has spun out of control. To fix both
of these problems I took today off to hang out with myself and my
house. It wasn't exactly a fun day, but it was a needed maintenance
day. Laundry was done, dishes put away, eyebrows groomed, closet
cleaned out (including a whole box for donating), giant stack of mail
dealt with, bills paid, hair washed, and dinner made. Ridiculosly
domestic but it needed to be done. Especially that closet. Here's the
after, but be sure to check the before. And yes the before actually
has a giant stack of clothes on a table. Thankfully it's all clear now.

Ps. this cleaning spree may or may not have been prompted by watching
an episode of hoarders. Seriously whenever I see that show, I
immediately feel the need to throw away stuff and clean something. I
guess that's a good thing?

El bulli holds her own

Last weekend, at grant's birthday, Eric invited Randall and I to their
next family+ poker game. It happened to be tonight and so we drove on
down to Fremont to test our luck. With 8 players we play for three
winners: third gets $20 (the buy in), second gets $50, and first gets
the rest ($90 if you need me to do the math). I am a pretty novice
player. In fact I have to check a cheat sheet before each game and
barely understand what a good or a bad hand is. Yet somehow I manage
to hold my own against these seasoned players. Grant says it's because
I'm a bully and force people to go all in. I say it's because I'm a
n00b and don't fully understand when I should be betting and when I
should be folding. Although I sort of hope I never figure it out,
because if I keep playing like this it'll be awesome. We played two
tournaments tonight and I came in third and then second. Not too
shabby for a bulli.

Ps. Yay for kele for playing too. It was fun to have another girl at
the table to steal these boy's money. Be sure to start teaching mikela
to do the same thing.

mind the gap.

in case you missed it, the interwebs is all a flutter over the new gap logo. i am one of the many who also think, gah! what were they thinking?! and i sit next the graphic designers at work, and they are also up in arms over it. today the conversation was about gap's new crowdsourcing plan, and whether or not this crappy logo was part of the plan all along. if it was, then kudos to gap, i assume there are more people checking out gap.com than normal. however, knowing the way large corporations work (i didn't always work at fun startups) i can't imagine this was intentional. besides, i bought these jeans a month ago, and looky here it's the new logo. if it was all just a big ploy to generate buzz, why would they have bothered to print them in the jeans? also now, in violation of (as elsa calls it) design law, they're going to have people create a new logo for free. sorry good graphic designers, that's all you're worth now.

ps. for the record, i never liked the old gap logo, but at least it was iconic and not terrible (see back pair of jeans for reference).

Only gal at the table (happy birthday grant!)

Hanging with the boys in Los altos for grant's birthday. The gals were
inside making delicious food (seriously Angela should open up a
restaurant or at least a catering company) while I stayed out with
the boys and lost my money. I hold my own despite the fact that I need
a cheat sheet to determine which hand is better than others. But this
time I didn't win. Luckily there's another hand coming up. Grant you
already won your birthday hand so consider this one mine.

Happy birthday grant!

Sunday with morm

Samshrew and I logged quite a few miles today in order to see morm.
She was surprised by our appearance and despite the situation was
pleased to show off her new shirt. In case you can't read it, it says
"Save water drink wine" the best part is I don't remember when I've
ever actually seen morm drink wine.

She looks cute here, even if her panda eyes are quite large. Clearly,
someone could use a bit more sleep. Actually, we all could, so good
night.
