Cinnamon and spice

After a weird day and an evening of junior reporters, I met up with Laura and Karen for dinner at Canela, a new neighborhood joint. The food was tasty, the decor was odd, but the place was great. Matt, the chef/co-owner came out and chatted with us for a while. He was so sweet and lovely and lives in the hood too. I hope the place does well!

Ps. If you go order the gazpacho and the flat bread. So great.

Pps. Remember Mad libs? Try playing them with 8 year olds. Everything is pooping and monkeys. True story.

Nerd friday: Hang the DJ edition

After a seemingly long week at work, a few of us hit up happy hour for a little unwinding. I stayed for one drink and then met up with Anneh. She and I were heading to beauty bar to meet up with Dylan and Randall and check out chuckles as dj. It's been a while since le chuck dj'd and it was fun to see him in action. Unfortunately wizards needed food and so we bid farewell and headed to lolo for dinner. Some tasty bites later it was time to part ways and head home to nerd out.

Making new pals at the deli

After an evening at 826 (my young reporter is writing about animals with prosthetics) I made my way home and searched for dinner along the way. I ended up being lured into bi-rite where I had dessert first. Actually I had one of the most amazing things I've ever eaten: bi-rite vanilla ice cream (complete with vanilla bean specks) drizzled with blood orange olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt. It was like a grassy dreamsicle and was heavenly. I didn't really want to ruin that flavor profile, but knew I needed something more substantial. I ended up stopping at rossi's deli (one of my neighborhood faves) and grabbing a turkey sandwich. While there my new pal said he'd read my palm. I told him sure and he said that it said I was going to have a turkey sandwich soon. Gee, how'd he do that?

Ps. Hello new coworkers I haven't met yet/ones who didn't know about this site before!

Chalowey beasts

This evening Randall and I headed to beast and hare to grab dinner with amy. She was in town for work and wanted to grab a bite of delicious. We weren't sure we'd be able to meet up, but it all worked out. It was good to see her. Mainly because I like her a lot and she's and old and good pal, but also because I'm thinking too much and need to spend time with those I love. I mean you never know, there could be some crazy earthquake or something to ruin everything. Speaking of which I didn't feel either of the quakes today.

Ps. The food at beast and hare was actually really great. The main downfall was that our 8:15 reservations didn't actually happen until 8:40. They lose an entire star for that.

Pps. Today's title alludes to how Randall pronounced chloe. Obviously.

You got (soft) served

After work I grabbed that sushi dog (phew the blue angels didn't freak her out into Godzilla destruction mode) and headed to 826. We walked thru the neighborhood and hung out for the reading of the paper. One kid wrote about the upcoming London Olympics and literally gave his dad a "this part's for you" shoutout when he got to the part about heneiken sponsorship.

On my way home I walked past bi-rite and the soft serve short line flavor was salted caramel. It's not always there and I kinda have a special place in my heart for soft serve so I ordered one. Magically after an entire morning of rain and drizzle it was actually great weather. Perfect soft serve weather.

Smitten by the weather

This evening jen and I jetted down to Hayes valley to partake in some ice cream. Jen loves the stuff and so I told her we'd hit up a new place each time she's in town (she's based out of new York).

First on the list was smitten, the make it with liquid nitrogen when you order, shipping container turned ice cream shop. We were going to go after dinner, but had a small wait for a table at domo. And since smitten closed at 9 we decided we should go for dessert first. We split three flavors: chocolate, olive oil, and salted caramel. Salted caramel was by far the best, although jen did say that the olive oil tasted like France.

Afterwards we grabbed sushi at domo where the first plate came with a flying ant. It's less yuck because it's like a fly and all the windows were open, but still yuck because it was on our sushi. They remade everything, but still not a food experience highlight. Sads. Good thing ice cream saved the day.

Ps. Bummed I forgot about straw, we'll have to eat there next time!

Pps. The weather today was just absolutely bananas amazing.

Brainstorms and Sifteo

This evening Kellan and I popped into metropol for a quick brainstorming session. (sidenote: I forgot to check in and solidify my mayorship, boo.) We chatted about candy and sugar and other sweet things. When we were done we said farewell and I came home to a new package (lately it's been like Christmas). It was actually an impromptu purchase Randall made, but I took it over. Sifteo is a new fun toy item that is totally useless and strangely fun. You can download new games for it and play by connecting them together. Clear dots, build words, etc. The sdk isn't out yet but when it is, we're gonna nerd Friday us up our own games.

Happy birthday sweenkat!

This evening I headed out to help sweenkat celebrate her birthday. She's joining the ol' lady gang and went out with a big shebang. The back room at rosewood (a cracking great spot) was decorated to the nines with loads of great treats (homemade by the birthday girl even).

Before the shindig I met up with Angelica, Morgan, Kristy, and Niño at don pistos. We devoured dinner and then headed to the bar. We had a great time and the party was a blast. Happy birthday sweenkat!!

Ps. Thank you Morgan for bestest pizza idea! Glad you got a new slice after you dropped yours on the ground.

Pps. Thanks to Jamie and Joel for offering rides home!

Ppps. Um yes. Those are my new glasses.

Guess what? I'm loud.

This evening the tykes at 826 were learning interview skills. To kick it off the wee reporters had to interview us, their trusty editors. One of the questions they asked me was how my friends would describe me. I answered "Loud, fun, and loyal." That's when one of the other kids at the other end of the table said, "They would be right. You're loud! I can hear you down here."

There you have it folks. Even the kids know I'm loud.
