On a mission

This afternoon neon came to town for the slumberland records showcase. But before they had to go out we, along with new sf resident Alice, met up at dosa for some sweet delicious brunch. And by sweet I actually mean spicy. I had the habanero mango chutney Dosa and it was totally too much spice, but amazingly delicious.

Afterwards, we wandered the mission looking at cutiepie stores and tracking down coffee. It was a couple of hours of awesome fun.

Later, when we were rested back up, Randall and I headed down to the press club for ethan's birthday. The sugar team was out in full force and it was fun to see them outside of pink walls.

Overall super fun day, even if it did pour down rain for a while.

I clean up okay, no?

This morning I woke up and my hair was on end. No joke, this is an undoctored photo of my hair straight out of bed. I guess you can say i was past due. One trip for a hair dryer later (mine blew up in my hands the other day) and we're back in action. I clean up alright, no?

Today itself was a pretty decent day. I went in to (finally) get fingerprinted for 826, and afterwards dragged randall to That's It for a super delicious torta. I've been wanting to try this place for a while, but didn't realize there was actually a place to sit (it's part restaurant/part convenience store) until I saw it on No Reservations. So thanks Anthony Bourdain, you pushed this place from the "should go someday" list to the "oh i should go now" list and I'm glad i did. Deeeeellicious. And i like the vibe in there. Total hole in the wall awesome.

Later, after torta life fulfillment, and some Chris/Sam/Sushidog time, I headed out to the Tonga room for Alisha's bayarea bachelorette party. we drank delicious drinks in festive glasses. seriously, don't bother choosing your drink based on what you want to drink, they're all just wonderfully sweet. base it on which glass you want to be seen drinking out of. will you be a tiki face, a coconut, a tidal wave, or just a full-on pineapple. really the choices are endless.

say tequila!

this evening the sugar marketing team begrudgingly dragged themselves away from their desks to head over to tres agave for a thank you fiesta. everyone has been working like dogs lately and the bossmen took us out to say thank you (well dk and kellan arranged, but they footed the bill). we started off with a margarita making class and then moved quickly to dinner. melissa and i went halfsies on the carnitas and carne asada, but i could barely eat it after all the guac, jicama, and deliciousness that we chowed down.

ps. based on expressions, i think kellan perfected the margarita, elsa maybe not so much

Press check!

This morning Elsa and I headed over to see Noel, our print guru. We
had an early(ish) press check (although the weather made it feel
earlier than it really was). It's been a long time since I've done a
press check (Internet media company and all) so that was kind of fun.
Besides I'll take any excuse to get nonfrazzled Elsa time!

Oh and how'd the check go? Fantastic! Can't wait to see the finalized
brochures!

Ps. Bonus points to Mitch for posting photos that should be kept in a
shoebox to facebook. Extra bonus points to Nicole for printing them
out at work.

Happy housewarming Laura and will!

This evening Randall and I walked to duboce triangle (one of my fave
neighborhoods in the city) for the Laura and will housewarming. Their
place, simply put, is amazing. And their friends, especially the ones
who are our friends, are even better. Thanks for having us, let's all
hang out again!

No golden ticket, but my tastebuds still declare a win

This afternoon I snuck away from work to head over to fog city news, a
tiny little magazine shop and home to more chocolate bars than you can
imagine. No really, despite their tiny size, they supposedly have the
largest selection of chocolate bars in all of San Francisco. So why'd
I go there?to pick up a delicious chocolate bar of course!

You see fog city news loves their customers and even have a membership
club (it's free and pretty much it means they'll email you when
specials occur), and today they had special Xocolatl de David
chicharron bar made with 4505 meats chicharrones. There were only 60
bars available and some even had golden tickets for a fance pig
dinner. you had to be a member (yes they even checked) and you could
only buy one bar. Sadly, I did not receive the golden ticket, but I
did get to taste the bar and that was alright by me.

So how'd it taste? Well the texture was a bit like a crunch bar, only
saltier and with a slight porky flavor. I liked the novelty of it (and
prefer it to the Vosges bacon bar), but sort of wish the chicharron
flavor stood out more. It's actually a really subtle bar, the
chocolate is smooth and rich and sort of overpowering, but when you do
get a bite, wowee zow it's neat. The spice and flavor first pop in
your mouth and then melt away.

Ps. How is it that I can leave the house looking so fresh and clean,
but come lunchtime look like a disheveled mess?

confidently chic taco tuesdays

this evening, i ventured across seas (okay really just a bay) to hang out with miss marie (author of the curvy fashionista. the weather was so gorgeous we ended up hanging out at the lake chalet, right on the water -- bonus for us it was taco tuesday (although i only had one taco and a bunch of overly sweet happy hour priced margaritas). it was great hanging out with her, she's got to be one of the busiest gals in the bay. but sadly i forgot to take a picture with us lounging, drinking, lakes, sunglasses, and tacos. we'll have to settle for in the car (named peaches!) as we said goodbye.

as a side note, today anneh also convinced me to appear in a bella tv video. we stood in front of a green screen and she sprayed my hair with dry shampoo (she obviously needed someone who had dirty hair and so naturally thought of me). while filming we convinced victor to take some green screen shots. they're still in the pipeline, but here's a quick camera phone sneak peek.

goats, and dogs, and jonsis, oh my!

today was one of those amazing san francisco days; there was lots to do, lots to see, and the weather was just downright perfect. although i got a late start (i slept in until 10:30 or so), there was still enough time to do all sorts. first up was the ferry building for the goat festival. it wasn't really a "festival" per se (there wasn't really a lot there to make it more than just a wee celebration), but we did get to snorgle some 7-day old goats, so it wasn't a total bust. it's funny, i used to think goats were creepy looking, but this little guy was so snorgly, he just moseyed on over and wanted to make pals. it probably had something to do with the fact that i just chowed down a 4505 meats chicken sausage and had some evidence on my hands, but i'm going to tell myself it's because he just wanted to snorgle.

afterwards randall and i muni'd on over to duboce park for the dogfest 2010. there were millions of dogs, and lots of silent and live auction items up for grabs. we met some adorable guys -- i was going to steal this chubby nonstop smiling pomeranian and randall befriended a rambunctious black lab mix -- but alas our landlord has a no dog policy. boo on that.

once we had our fill of puppies, we grabbed the N and headed over to amoeba for record store day. jonsi (from sigur ros) was doing an in-store, and since i missed the show i wanted to make sure i saw him. the show was pretty great, his voice is absolutely enchanting and his band was amazingly darling. i love it when musicians look like they actually love playing (as opposed to the ones who are clearly there because they have to be). while at amoeba we ran into our old pal jonathan. it's been a long time since we'd seen him and he's got stuff cooking on all sorts of burners. i hope we see him again soon, i want to play too!

now, after a few hours break, we're about to head over to oakland (twice in one week even!) for a happy birthday jessi uber-kitschy thai food celebration!

it's definitely been a pretty great day.

ps. i need to own alex's horse sweater. that thing is the best.
