My house thermostat says 86 degrees

And this is why I miss climate control. It is 10.20 at night and I'm
so unhappy. In addition to being uncomfortably warm, I think I have a
cold. My nose won't stop running and I might have a mild fever. I'm
not sure because it is so frigging hot. Every single window in the
house is open but the way the house sits on the hill means there's no
crossbreeze. Did I mention I think I'm sick? That or I suddenly suffer
from allergies that Randall does not (I find this hard to believe as
he's allergic to everything). Whine whine whine. I'm melting...

Alisha's bay area birthday

After squandering a beautiful day indoors (cleaning booooooo), Randall
and I headed up to San anselmo to help Alisha celebrate her birthday.
Although alisha's got a sacto gang she's well loved by a bay area crew
too. So we all met up at insalata's where we enjoyed a delicious meal
and more than one super delicious drinks. Happy birthday alisha!

This morning I stumbled out of bed and dragged Randall down to the sf
streetfood festival. When we got there we somehow managed to meet up
with Annie, Dylan, Rob, and Jeremiah. I say somehow because AT&T is
such crap and everyone there was probably on an iPhone that no text
messages or calls were going through.

Once our posse assembled we manuvered through the crowds eating our
way through everything. We started with sigsig tacos, moved on to
empanadas, pulled pork sliders, jambalaya ballinis, tritip skewers,
grilled peppers, tinga tostadas, goat curry, funnel cake, brownies,
peach ice cream and several beverages. (Typing that out makes me
realize how gluttonous we were today. But we were sharing(ish) so
that's okay right?)

After we had our fill, we worked our way over to heart where rob
treated us to a couple of bottles of wine. A perfect way to end the
afternoon. Thanks rob!

Needless to say, after all the food and wine, it was time to walk home
and take a nap.

Today, my pals, was a good day indeed.

Taking a risk

This evening Randall and I braved the bay bridge to head over to jessi
and chris's house for game night. There were 10 of us there and so we
had two rooms for gaming. In room one was the ever popular settlers of
catan (you know, the one rock for a sheep game). In room two was risk.
I ended up conceding my catan spot (there were a bunch of n00bs who
wanted to check it out and I'd played before), so I joined team risk.
Fun fact: I don't know if I'd ever played risk before. I didn't win,
but came in second. I had no idea what I was doing at first, so I'm
sure that's why I didn't win. I'm sure it had nothing to do with
cyrus's world domination skills. Nothing at all.

Ps. For dinner jessi made us a delicious tomato and goat cheese tart.
Nom!

Today is tod's birthday and to celebrate, Josh, ash, and I joined him

today was day one of blogher, and i think i asked those two questions about 3000 times. okay maybe it was more like 500, but still. as ali said, man the pitch is sounding tight.

i am exhausted though. we spoke to so many people that i thought my voice was going to give out (and yet, it feels like we're not really making a dent in brochures - i think someone lied to us on the estimated amount we should have - that or everyone is skipping out on the conference they paid to go to, so they can hang in nyc instead). my feet are also killing me. i'm so glad i was in flats (sara was crazy and went for professional cuteness and wore heels), although i think i might wear the extra hotel pillows as shoes tomorrow.

Sara, Melissa and I were doing an okay job at running the booth, but we were so glad that Ali came to help out. We couldn't have done it without her. The booth really needs two people at all time (preferred three), and during the session, if she wasn't there we would've been screwed. She was also awesome at rolling up her sleeves and getting busy with the gluedots in sugz sweatshop style. You know who else helped out sugz sweatshop style? randall. he apparently works for hot tamales. he also makes an excellent coffee runner. so if you need cheap page labor, look him up.

this year's blogher experience is totally different from last year's. this year the expo hall isn't as nice (that's the hilton's fault, this conference hall feels blech and not as open), and it's totally different working the booth rather than playing. we didn't even go to the parties (1) we were busy night one putting booth together (2) we were exhausted today. on one hand i'm okay with that, it's probably best to save the voice for tomorrow. but on the other hand, well the parties are really part of the whole blogher experience.

also if we had gone to the parties, we wouldn't have gone out for dinner (which meant we wouldn't have eaten anything all day). i finally had naeng myun (cold glass noodles in spicy sauce with egg and skate). it sounds scary but it's delicious.

afterwards we hung out with a just arrived from the west coast marketman, his sister, her roomate, and a lot of banana pudding from magnolia. sara and i split a container. i thought sara was going to cry tears of joy. melissa also said there would be no way we could finish it. she clearly doesn't know us like she thinks she does.

sidenote: we also bought some cupcakes. we tasted them but didn't eat them. the banana pudding was just too good (seriously it tastes like banana frosting with nilla wafers and bananas). sorry magnolia cupcake fans.

ps. i saw padma today. she was hawking jimmy dean food products and no one seemed to care that she was there. it was sort of surreal and weird.

Airport wine series: NYC red eye edition

How do I deal with a red eye to ny? Three words: glass of wine.

In related news, it's been 10 years since I've been to ny. This time
there will be no couch surfing, but I do imagine there will be some
late night hijinx. Stay tuned!

it's time to become those people

i have always told myself that no matter what my status in the world, i wouldn't have another woman cleaning my toilet. well you know what? i give up. i'm ready to be one of "those people" with a housekeeper. or at least a cleaning lady who comes over on a regular basis. and it's not that i'm fancy, and i know i like to say i'm lazy, but truth is, i'm just busy. these days it seems like i'm rarely home long enough to sleep and eat dinner, let alone to make sure the bathroom is sparkling. and the time i do have to spare, well i don't really see why i would want to spend it doing something i absolutely hate.

that said, i think it's time to call in professional help.

don't judge me, we can't all be awesome housewives.

ps. see that scar on my arm under the two freckles? i hate it so much. it's like an :/ emoticon that stares at me all day long.

After pretty much wasting the day, Randall and I decided to grill a
pizza for dinner. We were too lazy to make our own dough, but there's
a dough that whole foods carries that is tasty so we opted for that.

Randall ended up being in charge of rolling out the pizza. I'm
guessing geometry wasn't his strong point in school.

Ps. If you're wondering, a grilled pizza is great, but a circular
grill doesn't really evenly heat a pizza shaped like a dinosaur, or
south Carolina (depending on the angle). Just keep that in mind, you
know, for future reference.

sunday drivers and crooked streets.

last night, we found ourselves one block from the infamous Lombard Street, and Randall mentioned that he'd never driven down it before. Naturally we made up for that and drove down it right then (it was past 11 and the line was gone). Once we were done, Randall told me that while Lombard was more picturesque, he was positive that Vermont felt windier. I tried to make him take me then so we could see, but he said we should wait until the morning, especially because he didn't think all this windiness went with all the wine i had been drinking.

So we went today, and according to wikipedia (which, as you know, is never debatable) Vermont is indeed more "crooked." You can see for yourself:
