After pretty much wasting the day, Randall and I decided to grill a
pizza for dinner. We were too lazy to make our own dough, but there's
a dough that whole foods carries that is tasty so we opted for that.

Randall ended up being in charge of rolling out the pizza. I'm
guessing geometry wasn't his strong point in school.

Ps. If you're wondering, a grilled pizza is great, but a circular
grill doesn't really evenly heat a pizza shaped like a dinosaur, or
south Carolina (depending on the angle). Just keep that in mind, you
know, for future reference.

sunday drivers and crooked streets.

last night, we found ourselves one block from the infamous Lombard Street, and Randall mentioned that he'd never driven down it before. Naturally we made up for that and drove down it right then (it was past 11 and the line was gone). Once we were done, Randall told me that while Lombard was more picturesque, he was positive that Vermont felt windier. I tried to make him take me then so we could see, but he said we should wait until the morning, especially because he didn't think all this windiness went with all the wine i had been drinking.

So we went today, and according to wikipedia (which, as you know, is never debatable) Vermont is indeed more "crooked." You can see for yourself:

Sayonara Nicole!

Today was nicole's last day, and so we sent her off in the only way we
know how: with food. Our gang rounded up and headed to seller's market
where we fought a lady for a table (Julie was about to throw down) and
split a cookie that never ended (it was like jesus bread). It was a
good outing and I realized we should do it more often, not just when
someone says farewell. I mean how else would we learn about piranhas
and freeway shootouts and more?

The ladies have a very important meeting

For weeks Julie has been asking to have her life fulfilled (aka eat a
tasty lunch), so today reiko, Julie, and I headed over to tea garden
for some taiwanese niu roh mian (beef noodle soup). While there we
chatted about our moms and slurped up the noodles. Julie told us a
story about how her mom called her once at 11pm asking where she was
because a lady doesn't stay out like that. Oh moms, ladies do stay
out, they also eat soup. Lots of yummy soup.

Guess who (probably) has jury duty?

One hint: it's not me. Mostly I thought this would be a funny way to
notify Randall of the jury letter that arrived today. Something tells
me he's not going to appreciate it, especially since he probably
doesn't read this site and you will all know before him. But it's been
a slow day of gardening, cooking, and grooming, and who wants to read
about that?

Randall likes voting though, so he probably won't mind paying the
price. Also he loves law and order so he'll probably secretly love
being on a jury.

So hey Randall, i think you might have jury duty. A scary official
looking court letter with jury room info on the outside arrived for
you today. Just fy(and everyone else's)i!

I did!

Randall and I have been voting absentee for a while, mostly because
our polling place isn't convenient, but also because we turn it into
an event. We sit down and go through the candidates and measures. Most
of the time we cancel each other's votes out, but it's sort of fun to
debate.

The one thing we haven't mastered with the absentee ballot is the
whole mailing it out early thing. This is fine except it means we have
to drop them off at a polling place. But I left work real late so
there was no way I was making it to the one near my house. I tried to
go to one near work, but it wasn't where the interweb said it would
be. I was about to get real discouraged when I remebered duh, city
hall (and more importantly the department of elections) was on my way
home. Ta da! Civic duty done!

An aMaizeing nerd Monday

This evening we did the unthinkable and went out on a Monday night.
First we headed to pica pica on Valencia (sooooo good, you must go) to
pick up dinner and then to Karen and Shin's where we devoured our
tasty arepas and settled in for some settlers. Turns out they are even
nerdier for it than we are.

Lots of nerdy fun was had, but the best part was that I won. (I never
win.) I even had the longest road.

Actually the best part was when shin pulled out a bunch of random
kitkats (corn flavor!) for dessert. Combined with the three kinds
reiko gave me at work, it was a 7 weird flavors of kitkat day. There
was raspberry, soy sauce, wasabi, soy powder, corn, melon, and
strawberry cheesecake. For the record, I liked the corn the best, but
they were all awesome in their own way.

This evening my pal Leslie parked herself at 15 romolo for birthday
drinks. I was going to go straight afterwork but was gross from the
gym (that makes I three times this week folks). Luckily Leslie planned
on being there from six to midnight, so there was time. And in a
surprising twist, even Randall agreed that going later was better than
earlier. So we joined her and the rest of the folks on the 10pm shift
(hey Marc!) for super great crafted drinks. Seriously the folks at 15
romolo made some cracking delicious drinks. That or they stepped up
their game just for Leslie.

While there I also ordered a that's that. It's romolo's version of an
it's it (homemade oatmeal cookie sandwich with Humphrey slocombe
walnut ice cream all dipped in chocolate). It was all that, but sadly
there were raisins in there and that ruined it for me. Leslie however,
she likes raisins in her cookies so I assume they knew that and left
them in just for her.

10 things my potential best friend might want to know.

It's recently come to my attention that I don't have a best gal pal. Sure, there are lots of good friends, and some ladies who are in the running, but I'm pretty sure they're all spoken for (you know, had best friends since they were wee kids). Having said that, here are some things you might want to consider if you were to apply for the position.

1 - If we go to the movies, we should get the following candy, in this order: Sour Gummi Bears, Peanut M&Ms, and Red Licorice (as long as it's fresh).

2 - If you don't like candy, that's okay, that means more for me. I will however also appreciate fruit in this order: Guava, Pineapple, Blueberries.

3 - If we go out for drinks afterwards, I like Vodka Tonics, Champagne, and whiskey based things like manhattans. If it's before 3pm, let's have Bloody Marys (extra spicy) instead.

4 - If we decide to bake cookies, let's keep them chocolate chip. If you insist on something else, I'll be okay as long as there are no raisins. Raisins in my cookies is a total deal breaker.

5 - If we go out for a drive, and I'm not behind the wheel, don't be insulted when I grab for the door handle and tell you to be careful. It's not that I don't trust your driving, it's that I've been Randall's passenger for too long.

6 - Speaking of driving, don't judge me when I can't parallel park the car on the first, second, or third try.

7 - I'm a terrible communicator. Don't expect emails, phone calls, postcards, etc. (In hindsight, this could be why I don't have a best gal pal.) I will however, appreciate all of those things.

8 - My favorite movie from my childhood was The Goonies. You will get bonus points for doing the Truffle Shuffle. And we will be inseparable if we both say, "Holy Mary Mother of God" on a regular basis.

9 - I talk in circles. I hope you won't mind hearing the same story over and over again. You know, like the time we did that thing and that store closed at 1am. Did you remember that it closed at 1am?

10 - I'll promise to make you something/do something for you, and then probably take a year to do it. But you know, it'll get done.

You know what else will get done? My big butt going to the gym on a regular basis. That'll get done eventually.

Today I got 'er done, and this is what I look like afterwards. So much for healthy glow, I look like I've been crying. Maybe I just sweat through my eyes?

today samshrew and i were supposed to head up to wine country for a girls' day wine tasting and spa treatments. sadly, she ended up having to work this weekend, and had to cancel at the last minute. this meant i could've (a) gone on my own (b) found someone else who wanted to go, or (c) stayed home and decide that it's too gloomy for wine tasting. i opted for c.

besides, hanging out with randall's not so bad. even if it's a day of domesticity like costco and pulling weeds in the backyard (seriously they had gotten so tall i didn't even realize there was a lily plant in the back corner). but it's especially not so bad if it's a day that includes grilled lamb for dinner, and a trip to bittersweet cafe for dessert. their spicy hot cocoa is so delicious, but the peanut butter cocoa wowed me tonight. it even comes with enough foam for moustaches. plus, getting out of the house and going somewhere for no real reason is always fun.

ps. seriously i had no idea these lilies existed, and i can't remember the last time i saw chunky (the elephant).
