up, up, and away

this evening deirdre hooked randall and us up with tickets to up (the movie). originally she and melissa were supposed to come with us, but dk couldn't get out of a meeting, and melissa was feeling sick.

well folks, it was their loss. i LOVED this film. it is my new favorite pixar film, and so much fun. and i loved how they weren't your typical heroes -- crazy old man, fat asian boy scout, talking dog, and a giant bird -- quirky in a good way, and never annoyingly so. sure the plot was ridiculous and has a couple of random holes in it, but the house with all the balloons looked incredible, and it is a cartoon folks! also it might have made me wellington... okay i confess it totally made me wellington. i could not believe how sweet and sad the beginning was, but we'll just leave it at that so that I don't ruin it for you. just go see it. it was fun and adorable. if you have kids and they want to see it, take them, it'll be worth your while. i mean come on folks, talking dogs! and not in an oh the dogs are randomly talking cartoon way!

while out i was hoping to stick deirdre's face on a balloon and set it on "up" but sadly, they didn't have any balloons for us. because of that, we had to make due. here's us with her in the theatre.

ps. sorry melissa, i couldn't get the printer to work, so wasn't able to print out a picture of you. also, dk got the tickets so well, you know...

flyin' high

this evening randall and i met up with april, dan (thanks for getting us in to the show!), and chuckles for a bit of the ol' live entertainment. while at the rickshaw stop, we also bumped into margaret and blake (i had a feeling they would be there -- okay maybe that was because i saw blake's comment on sonic living and so i was pretty sure they would be). i wasn't sure what i thought of the show, it was part of the sfpopfest, and it was a lot of fun. However i didn't love any particular band, the first guy (pelle carlberg) was pretty good, but we missed a good chunk of the set; the second band (oh no oh my) made me think of death cab (mostly because of their nasally voices) and while i did like some of the songs, i couldn't get past that ben gibbard problem and therefore couldn't enjoy it fully; the third band (still flyin' the one that juju said i had to go see as soon as i got a chance) was a lot of fun, but to be honest i didn't get it. i had a good time, but juju i think i'm with wes on this one. i don't understand how you enjoy it. how chuckles enjoyed it i see, but you, i don't see, please to explain?; and the fourth band well, we left before they went on. even though margaret convinced me to stay, she could not work her magic on my chauffeur (aka randall).

so margaret you are going to have to tell me how they were. and randall if it turns out that surburban kids with bibilical names is my new favorite band, i will be sad.

ps. i love randall's weird preppy look here. so funny to me.

you're all fooled, it's just a stick

we all know how i feel about washing my hair. so when i woke up this morning and didn't have time, i decided to twist it up and put a stick in it. granted it's a fancy stick, but it's really nothing but a stick. so imagine my surprise when several people complemented me on it this morning. what is wrong with all of you, it's dirty hair tied back with a stick!

ps. to do this pull your hair to a low ponytail, twist it around, and pull it upwards and tuck it in. shove a stick in it and ta-da! you too can fool everyone.

pps. today anneh and i split a shake at lunch, we asked them to pour into two cups and when they gave them to us, they were each nearly full shakes. bonus!

17 again

when scottel arrived at our house yesterday, he was scruffy, dirty, and looking like an old man. it's amazing what a shower and a shave can do. i'm not sure when the last time i saw him cleanly shaven was, but it's blowing my mind. i mean now he looks 17. and if he's 17, that means i'm younger than that and that logic works for me.

ps. randall and i having been playing dogwalker lately, we're going to steal that sushi dog if they're not careful.

pps. too hot today, too hot.

fun in the east bay sun (happy birthday jessi!)

today we slathered on the sunscreen, packed up the cooler and crossed the bridge to frolic at joaquin miller park for jessi's birthday. i had never been there before, and had no idea that there was such an amazing huge park in oakland. there were so many picnic tables and bbq pits, we had a huge clearing all to ourselves. it was the perfect party setting (complete with balloons and streamers) and it was also the perfect day for such an event (although i honestly could have used a little less sun).

everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, including all the kids and dogs. however it's events like these that make me feel older. when did i know more people with babies (or baby fever, there are a lot of baby fever folks) than without? although the guy at safeway did say i looked like a teenager and needed to card me when i was buying beer, so that should cancel the baby party feelings out, right?

ps. this lil' cutie is desmond, proud baby (that's what his sweet leather bracelet says) of jessi and chris. i think he looks like a tough guy, but is a big ol' sweetie, not to mention a drool beast.

pps. once we got home, i passed out and napped for over 2 hours. kele would've been proud.
