There and back again

This morning dk and I met up in the hotel lobby and headed to the airport. We were both on the same flight home and arrived just in time for the 5 year sugar party. My oh my how we've grown.

In other news, it's great to be home.

OMG PSN (store)!

Today's drawing comes to us courtesy of Randall. As you can tell, he was excited by the PSN store returning. That or he couldn't draw game of thrones, because that's really what we spent the evening watching. Mostly because we finished season 3 of the wire yesterday and aren't quite ready for 4 (gotta let that shit sink in). Yes, I am fully aware of the fact that I'm watching too much teevee these days. Let's just not talk about that.

Barbabarian style

It was kind of a crappy day today, but a homemade garlic lemongrass
roasted chicken salvaged the day. I was going to eat it civilized
style, but by the time it came out of the oven it was too late for
civility. Also the knives were all dirty so barbabarian (as morm says)
style it was.

Camille and I smize for the camera

I woke up to the sound of the pitter patter rain and thought today
would be a good day to do nothing. That's when I got a call from
camille. She and chris were in town visiting some of his pals and were
up for an afternoon adventure. And by adventure I mean beers and
records.

Naturally we obliged. First up was amoeba, Camille was smart enough to
purchase the socialliving deal so she had some bonus credit there. Me,
I was just there to waste some money. I got a yo la tengo clearance
bin score and some other gems, so it was time well spent. Afterwards
we indulged chris's love for beer by taking them to monk's kettle. He
was worried that they wouldn't have what he was looking for, but they
did and more. Chris introduced us to Russian river's consecration and
man was that delicious. We also ordered up the charcuterie plate,
fries, and the big softie pretzel. Fun and good eats had by all, even
if the place is serious about beer. So serious, the waiter even did
some fancy bottle manuevering before pouring my beer.

When beers had been downed and all food polished off we stepped
outside to say our farewells. That's when Camille noticed that the
billboard across the street was home to an original jay Howell. Jay is
an old mutual pal of ours (although I don't know him that well) and
Camille thought it would be a good backdrop for us to smize in front
of. I think she made an excellent call. Smize! So great to see you
both, thanks for the fun afternoon!

great america f*ck yeah

last week marc sent out an email saying that the second sunday of october was the best weekend for great america, and that he was going to get a crew of folks together for a day of high thrill coaster riding. he even alleged that the lines were so non-existent at this time, that you could often ride rides again without getting off. well folks, he was right!

samshrew, chris, randall, anneh, dylan and i decided to join marc's gang today and arrived at good ol' GA around 10:15am. we did our own thing (including riding a few rides two times in a row because of the lack of lines), and then eventually met up with marc and his crew (well a portion of them, the gang total including us was actually closer to 30 folks). we spotted them mostly because mark was wearing his relaxuma bear suit and we him swinging around the giant swings. we hung out as a posse for a while, and then called it a day (it had been over 7 hours afterall). the highlights were definitely the invertigo and white water falls (in fact, anneh and dylan went 8 times). i also loved the demon, but that's mostly for nostalgic reasons (it was my favorite growing up).

so much fun was had! thanks for the invite marc, it was a brilliant idea!

Getting ready for the ol' married lady gang

Meet Kristy, she's getting married this weekend! To help her
celebrate, a gang of us headed out for wine o'clock after work. I
spouted off too many stories about weddings and we all drank a bunch
of wine. Kristy is going to have a fabulous wedding. I can't wait to
see pics! Congrats KK!

addressing summer

i bought this dress almost two years ago, and i have only worn it once. it's not that i don't like it (i love it), it's that it's white. and more so, it's that i'm messy. real messy. i don't think there's a single day where i don't spill something. and because of that, i never wear this dress. in fact, there have been countless number of times where i've put the dress on, and then taken it off because i've been too terrified to wear it.

and yet, for some reason i mustered up the courage and wore it today. it must've been this whole first day of summer mostly nice weather thing.

and, for the record, i didn't spill a single drop on it.

ps. speaking of summer, randall's making mint chip ice cream right now so i must be going.

in memoriam to our youth

This weekend the weather proved to be amazing BBQ weather, this was
good because i was headed to a couple of them today. We started off in
the east bay at jessi and chris's house. They have a pretty sweet
backyard and the east bay means at least 5 degrees more in warmth. The
crowd was a nice mix of folks, and while there were still more non-
parents than parents, quite a few babies and toddlers were in tow. I
started to feel old (how can I be somewhere where so many peers have
children?), but then someone brought jello shots and I knew everything
was okay.

After an entire afternoon of drinking in the sun, r and I headed to
the Parker brother's party. Every memorial day they do a 12 hour
(2pm-2am) backyard house party, complete with disco ball (yes
outdoors!), djs, and so much food and booze. Every year I say I'm
going to go, but never have the opportunity to make it. This year I
put all excuses behind me (including all day sun drinking) and dragged
Randall to the shindig. We didn't stay too long (see: all day sun
drinking), but we did have a good time. Plus, we got to see a bunch of
Santa Cruz folks we hadn't seen in years, and more Bridget time before
she leaves for turkey.

The party itself was the opposite of the first party. Both were loads
of fun (and can I just stop myself for a sec and tell you how great
the food at jessi and chris's was? Seriously I ate so much
deliciousness), but both made me aware of my age. On one hand I was
surrounded by babies and wondered how we ended up at this point in our
lives, and on the other I wondered how long until raging house parties
will be too much? Either way I'm going to try not and dwell and just
live in the now. Jello shots, disco balls, and all.
