The Daily Sabs

When you work at a place like Sugar, things like leaving work early to watch the latest twilight movie isn't out of the ordinary. And that my friends is what happened today. For the record, this movie was a pass. That said, I can't wait until our final twilight field trip.

While I love twilight for the mockery and ridiculousness (can we please take a quick second to talk about the wolf pack scene? Can we?!) the best part of the whole field trip was the hunger games trailer on the big screen!!! CAN NOT WAIT.

The weather was exceptionally nice today and the office felt like we were all walking and talking in molasses. Let's just say the nice weather generally translates to gross hot on the 15th floor without AC (for the record I really love AC and miss it ever since moving here). To keep cool Jordan, V, and I stopped by seller's market to sit in the shade for lunch. At the end of the day, when I was about to peel myself out of my chair and head home, a happy hour for britt's birthday note came thru.

So angelica, Anna, and I met a crew over at Otis. I'd never been before and despite the heat I thought it was a rad place for happy hour. Happy birthday britt! Hope you have a great year!

Ps. Technical difficulty (aka i forgot anna's new phone's photo resolution would mean I'd have to send fewer attachments) meant I lost photos of all the crew. Boo hoo!

After work the new food gang (randall, dave, sara, and i -- I think we need a team name) headed out to the mission for dinner. We tossed a few ideas out earlier in the week and ended up deciding on Radish over on 19th. It's relatively new and it was apparently the place to be. Matt and his pal Melanie were at the table next to us, and Leslie and her crew were at the table next to them. That definitely gave the place a great vibe and the food matched well too. If you go, definitely do try the shrimp corndog. Super unexpected yum. As was the biscuit BLT (even if the biscuit didn't have the best structural integrity). I'd definitely go back again.

Sidenote: on our way to the restaurant, there was a group of folks who were giving out free hugs. I'm not totally sure why, but one girl had a tardis poster so I stopped to make a friend.

This evening I met Erin, adam, and their pal autumn at the tonga room for a bit of happy birthday Erin fun. I was hoping (okay I actually knew) that Erin would love it there. It's like a Disneyland 60s time warp with big alcoholic drinks served in actual pineapples and such. It even rains inside and that is just birthday magic.

This evening I headed home from work and decided to deal with all of the veggies I bought at the farmers market yesterday. The main event was the cherry tomatoes. I had bought an entire bag of slightly underripe/firm ones just for pickling. I ended up making two jars, one spicy dill and the other aniseed salt. I've done this with cucumbers a bunch, but never with cherry tomatoes. Guess we'll have to wait a day or two to find out.

Ps. Taking the inflatable raft boat out tomorrow I hope it stays inflated.

But today we fight!

Okay, there wasn't actually any fighting today. That's just the title of a lithograph I did a few years ago and finally got around to framing today (along with a few other pieces that needed frames for years). I managed to finally get that chore crossed off the list. So yay for productive days off.

I was also productive in the kitchen. I thawed some three year old cake (dont judge that fondant sealed flavor in like brand new) and I even made some delicious pork belly. I did the David Chang recipe and while it was good, I felt like it was missing something.

You know what else is missing? My old mattress. These guys came and took it away and delivered a new one in it's place. Now if you don't mind me, it's time to go sleep on a cloud.

It was quiet today and somehow this meant we all had time for lunch. We decided to check out bamboo, this new overwhelming Asian food place (seriously it's like three restaurants in one) and then brought everything back for a feast in the kitchen. Gene happily took our pic and then joined us. His McDs crew abandoned him for food at their desk, so we had him join our gang.

Later in the afternoon Randall rescued me from work and we ran a few random errands over in Hayes valley. Afterwards, we headed to zeitgeist to where we met up with randall's crew. Jeff, the man in charge, bought round after rounds of pitchers and the boys taught me to play asshole. (I'd heard of the card game, but I was more of a bullshit person myself.) oh and I won. Social!

This morning I woke up to go hang out with miss Coco Pai, the owner of cocospa on post. She's quite possibly one of the cutest ladies in the world and happens to be a fabulous esthetician too. I had a great conversation, but more importantly my skin feels awesome now.

Afterwards I headed to Saigon sandwiches to pick up some lunch and then went home to neglect some chores. Then later in the evening, I called up Anneh and planned to meet her and Dylan at little chihuahua. We nom'd more delicious foods (I had been craving tacos for about 4 weeks) and then parted ways. Randall and I walked back home and wandered through the park, taking a quick detour to play on the swings. Overall a nice kind of Sunday.

Ps. I'd never seen a good news candy bar before, I don't really have any good news.

And yet another one says farewell. Today was matt's last day and so bea arranged a goodbye lunch at osha. We ate some delicious and talked about futures, lifetime movies, and law and order. Won't you miss this matt? Glad to have worked with you. Best wishes, i hope our paths cross again someday!
