Nerd Thursday: Payday Edition

Today was a longer work day than I anticipated (although shorter than most) and afterwards I braved the mall to pick up the holiday shopping. When I got home Randall was making dinner (pork chops and asparagus). I just supplied the salad and the pretzel bread.

When we were finished eating we put on some tunes courtesy of Mimi and jacek (thanks for the cd kiddos!) and then I asked Randall if he wanted to play a board game. He frowned and gave me the stink eye (see photo) but then said sure why not. I could tell he wasn't thrilled, after all board games don't need power and therefore he doesn't understand them, so i told him he could pick which game we played. He ended up choosing payday. That was one of his favorites when he was a kid. I never played it back then and have only played it a handful of times in the past few years (the first time being when we bought this version because Randall thought it would be fun). I don't like it as much as life or monopoly, but I like that the amount of time to play it can be varied. It's silly though. You buy property and sell it. Really it should be property investor payday, but that's too long and even lamer sounding.

Btw, if you're wondering who won, it was me. 81k to 40k. Guess I'm just a better investor.

Laze-o-meter registering off the charts

Sometimes you just need a lazy day complete with homemade leftover soup and afternoon nap.

In other news, can't wait for our new couch to arrive. Sharing this one is cozy, but not really comfy.

Getting the job done

Stayed late tonight to get the work done. Why? I'm calling it vacation the rest of the week. Not sure what I'm doing, but if everything goes according to plan, it won't be working!

In other news, this is my new brewskeeball shirt. Randall has the same one. Now we can be twins. Seriously, I'm sure you won't be able to tell us apart.

Too tired to cook

But not too tired to go out to sushi! I <3 lazy date night.

When the sun goes down

The one thing that I hate about daylight savings is how early it gets
dark. Tonight dk and I were still in the office when the sun went
down. This made us both sad indeed. No more post work outdoor happy
hours until spring. I might as well hibernate.

Nullify the vote

While Randall and I do have a lot of common ground, for the most part
we're polar opposites. This is most evident during every election when
we fill out our absentee ballots and cancel out each other's votes.
This is one of the reasons why I think our relationship is swell. We
always talk about the issues and candidates, agree to disagree, and
still enjoy each other's company. Although this time around we agreed
on more than disagreed. Either I'm making him hearts and flowers or
he's making me tough. I guess there are worse things.

So folks, don't forget to vote tomorrow! Whatever your politics, we
can still be friends. Just vote!

We are the robots

Well, at least chris, jessi, and wee Desmond are. I am just a robot
fan who showed up for the wee robot's second birthday. We played robo
ball, but Desmond's cousin made up the rules as we went along. Somehow
I needed 38 points to win and he only needed 4. These robots sure are
tricky.

Ps. Andy won for creepiest robo-mask ever.

Pps. The glowing shaking ghost toy was a big hit with the kids and
Karina.

Camille and I smize for the camera

I woke up to the sound of the pitter patter rain and thought today
would be a good day to do nothing. That's when I got a call from
camille. She and chris were in town visiting some of his pals and were
up for an afternoon adventure. And by adventure I mean beers and
records.

Naturally we obliged. First up was amoeba, Camille was smart enough to
purchase the socialliving deal so she had some bonus credit there. Me,
I was just there to waste some money. I got a yo la tengo clearance
bin score and some other gems, so it was time well spent. Afterwards
we indulged chris's love for beer by taking them to monk's kettle. He
was worried that they wouldn't have what he was looking for, but they
did and more. Chris introduced us to Russian river's consecration and
man was that delicious. We also ordered up the charcuterie plate,
fries, and the big softie pretzel. Fun and good eats had by all, even
if the place is serious about beer. So serious, the waiter even did
some fancy bottle manuevering before pouring my beer.

When beers had been downed and all food polished off we stepped
outside to say our farewells. That's when Camille noticed that the
billboard across the street was home to an original jay Howell. Jay is
an old mutual pal of ours (although I don't know him that well) and
Camille thought it would be a good backdrop for us to smize in front
of. I think she made an excellent call. Smize! So great to see you
both, thanks for the fun afternoon!

The long ride home

At the end of the work day chris offered me a ride home (he's at sugar
working on some videos). I'm totally out of the way, but I took him up
on the offer anyway. Chris never smiles in pictographs, but he seems
to love his car, driving, and talking about film and tv, and so I
caught him with a grin. Thanks for the ride chris!

Ps. Later in the evening it was time for some skeeball. I rolled a 226
which would be my average roll score. Decent, not great, but an
improvement over the first week which was probably closer to 170. Go
ordinary skeeple!

And $300 later...

This afternoon erin and I took a gals trip to target. We tried on a
bunch of clothes, looked at shoes, and spent a bajillion hours walking
up and down all the aisles. Overall an afternoon well spent. the
money, well maybe not so much. Somehow you can walk out of target
spending a lot more than anticipated.
