today's farmer's market was bustling. now that spring is here, there are loads of different kinds of fruits and vegetables, including long stalks of sugar cane. my mom is from taiwan and whenever we would visit we would eat sugar cane from street vendors. it is hands down one of my favorite things in the whole world. so naturally, when i saw one, i had to grab it. i also then carried it all over the muni, the library, the bart, and the mission. i imagine i looked totally awesome and absolutely hardcore, or totally ridiculous.
ps. i love the library and the online request system. ex machina 3, 4, and 5 are mine to devour!
pps. scottel didn't leave, he's on the extended stay plan. that's okay with me. we made such beef in his honor.
ppps. i had a dentist appointment today, do you think he'll be thrilled to hear that i left his office to go gnaw on some sweet wood?

today i asked randall how he felt about ice cream for dinner. suprisingly he said, "sure." so after work, i ran a couple of errands and then stopped by humphry slocombe where i grabbed a couple of pints. the first one was blue bottle vietnamese coffee and secret breakfast (which is bourbon and cornflakes), and the other was prosciutto (which is salty and fatty, and tastes like something from my childhood that i can't figure out). i really wanted the thai chili lime, but they didn't have any in pints.
now for the shocker. bi-rite i love you dearly, but there is a new lovely on the block. if you have not been to humphry, you are missing out. every flavor i've had has been pretty amazing. humphry i heart you.
ps. yes, i am reading a comic book in the pic above. that's right you're jealous, i'm eating ice cream for dinner while i read comics. sometimes being an adult is awesome.
pps. for dessert sushi and samshrew came over and we had porkchops, mac & cheese, and beet salad.
ppps. samshrew says the prosciutto ice cream tastes like "asian grocery store" i think she's on to something.

the weather has been wonderfully amazing these last few days, anneh even said that it "smelled like summer." since this does not happen often in san francisco (when the weather is good, it seems like the weekdays are great, but the weekends miserable), i decided to make the most of it. first i headed down to dosa to meet chuckles for brunch. we pigged out on spicy deliciousness, including their version of a bloody mary and a scrumptious egg dosa. afterwards we hiked up to the seward slides, but beforehand we made anneh leave her house and join us.
naturally we walked up the steepest hill in san francisco for absolutely no reason, but the end result was worth it. i'd been hearing about these mysterious seward slides for years, but kept forgetting to go (despite the fact that they're pretty close to my house). they're two really steep curvy slides made of concrete, and i don't understand how they haven't been torn out. they're definitely an accident waiting to happen. in fact, we all endured some scrapes and bruises - that bandana on chuckle's arm isn't because he's sporting his gang colors, it's to cover up his slide wounds.
ps. somehow the slides didn't wear me out and i managed to go home and rip out the rest of the front yard. i am now the proud owner of several tomato and pepper plants. i am pretty sure my neighbors think i'm nuts.

this evening i tricked annie into going to see twilight with me. and by tricked i mean i just asked and she said Rob Pattinson! i'll admit it now, i got sort of obsessed with these terrible books and had to see the film, so i was glad to have company. i've never been a vampire person, but between this and true blood, i fell victim to the trend.
well, true blood ended on sunday, the twilight books are all read, the movie has been seen, and hell even a drink called "vampiro" has been drunk. i think i can safely file this obsession behind me. you know, until true blood starts up again next fall and the next dumb twilight film opens up.
look, don't judge me.
ps. this picture is an outtake from a series that didn't turn out at all like i anticipated. the lights were all wrong, i didn't have the patience to keep trying, and i wasn't going to make my "daily" deadline if i did. i was going to use one of the other more serious ones, but randall liked this one best. he says i look "pretty dopey" and that it goes well with the whole dumb obsession. i couldn't really argue with that.
pps. how was the movie? suprisingly not as bad as i thought it would be. not so bad actually.

For weeks, no make that months, randall and i have been putting off our garage cleaning duties. We're lucky enough to have a place in San Francisco that actually has a garage, and believe me we've taken advantage of it by shoving all sorts of things into it. Unfortunately we learned last winter that it retains water when it rains heavily. While we had thrown out the sad waterlogged boxes a long time ago, we never got around to actually organizing things. So today we spent nearly the entire day in the garage. It's not amazing, but it's getting closer.
The worst part is that even though I was the one who designated today as garage day, I tried to get us out of it by suggesting a drive up the coast or something more fun. Sadly randall decided to play the adult and made us spend the day with dust and cardboard. Afterwards I decided that all the hard work earned us a cone at Bi-Rite creamery. However once again randall played the adult and told me that I had to eat dinner first. Luckily the grocery store sells their delicious ice cream by the pint, so I was able to eat dinner and then enjoy my treat at home.
Bi-Rite Salted Caramel, I heart you!

this is my putt-putt. i've had it for a year and a half and don't ride it often enough. mostly because the parking situation at work was a hassle. i just got that remedied (for now), so i hope that means I'll be riding more.
when i walked into the office today -- after taking the freight elevator up -- ashley told me i looked like a badass. ha. while i do agree that the helmet and jeans make me look tougher, I'm hardly what you'd call a badass. after all, I call my somewhat historic totally awesome moped a "putt-putt."
but hey, maybe if i'm riding more, i'll learn to be.

today was a rather long day. it didn't help that it followed a night of delicious soup and too many glasses of wine. especially considering the fact that several glasses were from a rather large $1 bottle my mom gave me. (yes, my mom gave me a giant $1 bottle of wine. she bought an entire case at the dollar store and wanted to know if it was "okay to give away to other people." for the record I'd have to say "um, only if you're positive they're going to regift it anyways.")
this afternoon I sent randall a link to this video of a mini-horse running around like lightning. he was shocked as he apparently showed it to me last night, and I insisted it was a dog. I have no memory of this. way to go $1 wine.

last night was a pretty amazing food adventure, our meal at manresa took five hours. that's right, five. we arrived at six, and left at eleven. it started with madelines and ended with them as well. you'd think after a five hour meal i wouldn't want to eat again, but here i am the following day planning a wee dinner party. what is wrong with me?
in addition to making dinner I decided to whip up a batch of snickerdoodles. i usually only make chocolate chip cookies, but thought i'd branch out and try something new. besides, the cinnamon seemed fall-festive, and although the weather has been pretty nice, it's hard to ignore the season when it's completely dark by 6pm.
oh and for the record, i hate it when we lose daylight savings.

randall and i are headed to los gatos tonight for fine dining at manresa. we're meeting some really good friends to celebrate for no particular reason.
while we were getting ready randall made me laugh by putting on a really ill-fitting blazer. i hope we never grow up.
ps: the title of this post is in reference to the dress i'm wearing. it's tang mama's (my mom's friend's mother's old dress from probably 1985). i love it but have only ever worn it in public one other time.
pps: i wish this photo was in focus a bit better, but dinner calls!
