Finding common(wealth) ground

This evening Frances asked me where she should get chinese food and my immediate response was mission Chinese food. Once I had the thought in my brain I decided I had to have it, so i told her I'd join her on the adventure (sorry sushi dog you're stuck with uncle Jimmy). We ended up leaving kind of late and jen joined us (wooed by the nearby ice cream). Unfortunately I blew it and mission Chinese food is actually closed on Wednesdays. Luckily commonwealth, their sister-ish restaurant next door, had availability for us. We only waited about 5 minutes and then dove into some amazing foods. Dining win! Plus I finally got to cross it off my list. The best thing was the soft egg although the lamb was great too. Actually the best thing is that jen and Frances are both sharers. We split every dish nom nom!

Food friends in the fog

Although the summer gloom is in full force, Carolyn and I still met up for some outdoor treats. We were originally planning on meeting at B, but they were having a private party. We decided that laziness was greater than our need for alcohol, so we hung out at samovar instead. We actually sat outside and split a pot of tea and a platter of snacks.

After a little while, Randall met up with us for dinner. We decided that ramen went with the fog best and headed to katana-ya. Apparently so did everyone else. The wait was pretty long so we to Chabaa, the Thai place next door. They had a delicious duck soup and the cutest beer/wine list ever. Seriously did they have a 12 year old unicorn princess fan draw that list or what?

As American as Thai food and mini golf

Today's plan was really loose and open to suggestion. We knew we wanted breakfast, something fun outdoors, drinks, and fireworks. And luckily, casa de dicksmith doesn't mess around. We had all those things and more.

We started off with breakfast down near fancy Madison park (I think that's what it was called). A lot of places were closed but a divey place called the attic served us up some delicious bacon bloody Marys and tasty omelets. Afterwards we headed out to play some putt-putt mini golf. The course was designed without a lot of gimmicks and was quite fun. Despite my awesome hole-in-one on the notorious hard hole, derreck ended up winning by 6 points, giving team dicksmith the lead as well.

Once we had soaked up enough putter sunshine we popped by amy's friend heather's house for a BBQ. We weren't staying long (there were places to visit and shops to get to) but it was a nice vibe that reminded me of Santa Cruz party days.

Later, when it got closer to dinnertime, we walked down to the food area. We were craving burittos, but when we got there the place was closed, in fact many places were. We eventually landed at grims. We were going to order hot food, but half of their power was out and they couldn't cook. Luckily they could still make delicious drinks (a raspberry take on the Moscow mule was great) and serve us up their cheese and meat plate. It was a good snack but only made us hungry for dinner. With most choices out of rotation we walked about and eventually ended up at amy's fave Thai place. We nom'd it up and then went to the lookout for Lynchburg lemonades on the lush back patio.

When it got close to the right time, and after we finished our drinks and initiated alex into our gang, we walked a block to a seemingly good spot to watch the fireworks. We were sort of on this ledge next to a big concrete wall. We were calling it the bunker as there was a crazy scene playing out below us. Loads of wasted youth hipsters were lighting up bottle rockets and a few other more potent explosives. One of the big ones nearly hit a house (exploding a few feet from the window) and one guy exploded a bottle rocket inches from his face. Our little bunker felt pretty darn safe in comparison. However once the real show started we had to move. Our view was partially blocked by a tree and that was not acceptable at all. Luckily a few paces away gave us a stunning view.

Overall a most awesome day. Casa de dicksmith deserve kudos for their weekend planning. I only hope to pay the favor back one day!

Happy birthday America!

Ps. Because it is a small world, I also happened to run into ali, Karen and shin's friend. Go figure.

Drunken pig faces

Based on this photo, one might think the four of us are in some weird uniform or spa outfit. We're not, we all just happen to have black tanktop pajamas. And that's right, we're spending Saturday night pajama party at home. Why? Because it's been a long, fun, and delicious day.

We started off with breakfast treats at home, then headed out to woodinville for some wine tasting. The wineries out there are interesting, especially considering the fact that the grapes are grown way out in eastern Washington. Mainly they're just small industrial spots where the wines are aged in barrels and then tasted in rooms in the front. We hit up 4 wineries, a vodka distillery (single silo vodka = delicious), a white whiskey place, and red hook for beers and lunch. Needless to say a great time was had by all, but man it (combined with the sunshine) was a bit coma-inducing. In fact we came home and napped for a bit before heading out to dinner.

For dinner we met up with alex and suzanne at Quinn's. Our delightful hosts (seriously A+D are amazing and I can only hope to someday repay the hospitality) chose this spot based on my love for sour ales. I had one while we waited for the table but switched to a local apple-lemon soda with dinner. Also, I did indeed order pig face with dinner. It was shredded and breaded and formed into delicious pork nuggets. No one wanted to try the pig face but I made them and they all declared nom nom!

On our way home we passed by cupcake royale where Derrick bought a round of all the special seasonal strawberry cakes. We paired them with a pint of vanilla frozen custard, some rose and declared it a great day.

Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for some shuteye. Amy gave me some knockout tea and it's really kicking in. Besides if tomorrow is anything like today, I'm going to need some sleeps.

Ps. Kitty figgy here is adorable and feisty and great, but she pwned us by marking her spot on our bed. Thiggy. Thanks figgy.

Donuts and birthday cakes

Heidi pointed out that today was national donut day. I didn't think I'd get any, but after a quick stop at off the grid, we decided to grab a warm donut at bob's. It was randall's idea, I was thinking of getting one more taco from a food truck when he said why don't I get a donut instead. You don't really need to ask me twice if I want bob's, so off we went. Thanks for the tip Heidi!

And if donuts weren't enough, earlier in the day a gang of us went to osha for kellan's birthday. We got her a cute solo cupcake for the restaurant, and then a full-sized one for the office. Happy birthday Kellan!

Ps. I think I hit my monthly sweets quota in one day
