today randall and i decided that we might as well get into the holiday spirit. we both generally enjoy the holidays, but last year we didn't do a darn thing. no tree, no mistletoe, nothing. it made the entire holiday season anti-climatic, so we decided to step up our game this year.
this evening we stopped by the nearby tree lot and picked ourselves up a winner. then we spent an hour searching for our christmas decorations. we were about to declare christmas as ruined, when we finally discovered them hiding in the basement. our decorations are white lights, silver ornamental garland, red spheres and toys. lots of funny little toys including playmobile figurines, legos, and cute little stuffed creatures. it's really weird, i'm semi-ocd on the tree, i grew up in a house with a complete hodgepodge of ornaments in every kind of a color, but as an adult i want it to be a bit more consistent. i just hope i don't turn into one of those "perfect" tree people where everything has to be the exact same color and spacing, because we all know weird ceramic owls don't find their ways onto those trees.

this evening i tricked annie into going to see twilight with me. and by tricked i mean i just asked and she said Rob Pattinson! i'll admit it now, i got sort of obsessed with these terrible books and had to see the film, so i was glad to have company. i've never been a vampire person, but between this and true blood, i fell victim to the trend.
well, true blood ended on sunday, the twilight books are all read, the movie has been seen, and hell even a drink called "vampiro" has been drunk. i think i can safely file this obsession behind me. you know, until true blood starts up again next fall and the next dumb twilight film opens up.
look, don't judge me.
ps. this picture is an outtake from a series that didn't turn out at all like i anticipated. the lights were all wrong, i didn't have the patience to keep trying, and i wasn't going to make my "daily" deadline if i did. i was going to use one of the other more serious ones, but randall liked this one best. he says i look "pretty dopey" and that it goes well with the whole dumb obsession. i couldn't really argue with that.
pps. how was the movie? suprisingly not as bad as i thought it would be. not so bad actually.

i have a confession to make. i haven't left the house today. and although annie sent out a very tempting invite to m83, i'm going to decline and stay in all day.
and now before you go thinking i'm a totally lazy potatocouch (this is a morm vocab word, btw) i should say that while i haven't gone anywhere, my lungs were filled with fresh air when i went to the garage to do laundry, so at least chores were taken care of. also i thought about going downtown to run some errands, but then i remembered it was black friday and that i didn't want to be anywhere that craziness. we played along at a fry's a few years ago, and i don't feel the need to do it ever again.
anyways, on to the old lady collection. this sweatshirt was given to me by grandma. samshrew and i went to visit her a few years ago and she gave it to me because it was too big for her. it's too big for me too, but there's something about it that i love. it's a horrible plain grey sweatshirt with slightly puffy bird embellishments sewn onto it, but i think it's great. mostly because it's super cozy, but partially because it makes me feel sentimental. i call it my sweet oldlady bird sweatshirt and i plan on sitting in it all night long.

This is me stuck in traffic on the way to randall's sister's house. What should've been a little under two hour drive is going to be at least three. Randall's handling it pretty well and I'm trying to keep him entertained with bad jokes, but if you look closely, I'm sure you can see the anger in his eyes. It doesn't help that this is only the first leg, my family's celebration is later tonight, two hours in another direction. All of this is why randall sort of hates holidays. I just hate the stop/go carsickness I'm on the verge of.
And I know i have a lot to be thankful for and shouldn't be whining on thanksgiving, but next year I really hope to be thankful for everyone traveling to our house instead.
Ps. Happy birthday bao
Pps. I just heard "Do they know it's christmas" on the radio. I guess it's officially christmas time.

I've spent the last few days in warm and sunny mexico. Randall and I were there for a+a's wedding. We were mainly in a small town called moroleon, but also spent some time in guanajuato and morelia. It was wonderful and amazing, guanajuato was by far my favorite part. The town was so pictureseque and lovely, and the weather was absolutely fantastic.
So why the winter coat?
Well we arrived in san francisco and apparently now it's winter. That means it's time to bust out the warm coats and pretend we're phil daniels (if you don't know who that is, google quadrophenia).

by now we've figured out if the blackberry is working or not (hint: if there are posts between the vintage posts, then working, if not then not), however i'm leaving these on timers just in case. besides for those of you who know me IRL they have to be amusing to you.
this is one of me practicing the ballet.
as you can see, my face has always been round, my thighs have always touched, my bangs always been a bit choppy, and my smile big. i am totally okay with all of this. however i must admit, it's a little weird to think that i'm more or less the same as a five year old.
regular posting resumes tomorrow - happy turkey week!

i wasn't sure if my blackberry would work in Mexico -- I always get the international data service turned on, but it never seems to do anything -- so to entertain you while I'm gone, I figured I'd share some vintage photos.
This photo is one of my faves. not because of its lil' sabs factor, but because of that dress. if i could have that dress right now, I would totally wear it on a regular basis. The other reason i like it is that it shows I have pretty much been the same my entire life (well there was that awful dyed hair crappy weird period during college, but we won't talk about that). I more or less have that haircut now, and even though this dress is not in my arsenal, i'm sure something else polyester and twee is.
also, who slouches like that? don't school photographers tell kids to straighten up? sheesh!

i'm in Mexico for a friend's wedding right now, and am not sure my blackberry will work. to keep you entertained i've decided to throw out some vintage photos.
I thought this one would be appropriate, because of the Mexico tie-in. This picture was taken when I was 15 or 16 (I have virtually looked the same my entire life) and was my cross-country portrait (that's right, my lazy ass used to run 3-5 miles a day). The tie-in is that during this period of my life, people thought I was Hispanic - particularly Mexican. They still do, but the tan made it worse.
It's particularly frustrating in taquerias where folks immediately speak to me in Spanish (a language I only know via menus) and then look at my disapprovingly for not being able to speak my "native" language. Like I need any more guilt.
Btw, I imagine the above scenario is happening to me right now.
ps - the amount of tan in this photo is only about half of my maximum high school tan level - translation: this girl used to be really brown.

i'm out of town right now, and i won't have access to a computer. they tell me that my blackberry will work (i'm out of the country for a wedding), but that's never been true before. so just in case it doesn't, i've decided to entertain you with some daily vintage photos. if we're lucky my blackberry will work and I'll it'll just be a double-post day.

we recently scanned in a bunch of old photos, and this one is one of my faves. i'm about a year old and i'm chowing down on a rib. this is pretty much the story of my life. i was born and bred a foodie, and well, i guess some things never ever change.

On our way to mexico for a wedding. Continental ended up being the cheapest option and i am pretty sure this was my first flight with them. The service was pretty nice, nothing amazing but solid (insert pondering question about many flight attendants nearing retirement age here). And I was surprised that they served lunch. Although I wasn't surprised by the quality. It was a microwaved sad cheezeburger. Pretty foul actually. I couldn't eat it all and you all know that I will eat anything. Randall was smart when he said he'd pass.
Ps. We had a layover in houston. The first thing I saw was a fox news channel store. Honest.
Pps. Our next little bus-like plane is having maintenance done on it while we're sitting on the tarmac. Something about pressure, should I be worried?
