Total eclipse of our heartthrobs

When you work at a place like sugar, there are certain ridiculous
things it helps to be into. I mean where else could I work where there
would be a get out of the office early to go watch twilight party?
Yes, one of the ridiculous things I'm into is twilight. I'm not
ashamed to admit it. Okay maybe just a little bit. I mean the movies
are pretty bad. Luckily I have all these lovely ladies and a dapper
gent to share them with. Not to mention to snicker and make snide
comments at with.

Material girl

I ventured into the garage to raid the fabric stash, but sadly nothing
down there worked for the project I have in mind. Some people would go
to the store for more supplies. Some people would leave all this in a
pile and never get around to doing anything. Guess which option I'll
take?

Ps. Did you feel the earthquake this morning?

catch a happy birthday samshrew wave

today was an action-packed, not to mention snack-packed, day full of samshrew birthday fun. first off samshrew, chris, and sushi dog picked randall and i up for a jaunt across the bay. the east bay spca is putting on these special events all summer long, and today was a free kayaking with your puppins day. randall and i sadly don't have a puppins, so we paid our dues and rented a kayak.

afterwards (and before) we gorged on tasty treats from the jack london farmer's market (the fish tacos there = awesome). and then we headed back to the city where chris picked up a cake from his pals at Sugar Beat Sweets. we got stuck in a little bit of pride traffic (fun fact, i witnessed a cop break up a fight, and then take down a dude who wouldn't cooperate -- come on, he took a swing at the cop!), but eventually ended up at samshrew & chris's house.

we had many hours to kill (dinner reservations weren't until 8), so we snacked, played a round of life -- randall won, also it's pretty different to the version i had when i was growing up -- drank wine, and ate birthday cake. for the record, it was a vegan cake, was vanilla with strawberry, and even randall -- who is skeptical of anything vegan and normally only eats chocolate cake -- asked for a full slice. translation: it was tasty.

finally, after goofing about for a while more, we hopped into the car, miraculously found parking in the castro on pride weekend, and headed to frances for dinner. folks, i made these reservations weeks (maybe months) ago. it is the hot new must-eat at place in the city and after eating there, i can totally see why. the food was delicious, the service friendly and on top of it, and they even seated us 15 minutes early. plus, they knew it was samshrew's birthday, so they brought us out the most fantastic housemade salted chocolate cookies with humphry slocombe ice cream sandwiches in the end. oh and did i mention? they serve the house wine by the ounce. they bring a small pitcher that has ounce markings on the side, and they only charge you for what you drink. simply amazing. i can't wait to go back.

happy birthday samshrew!

This is randall's idea of round

After pretty much wasting the day, Randall and I decided to grill a
pizza for dinner. We were too lazy to make our own dough, but there's
a dough that whole foods carries that is tasty so we opted for that.

Randall ended up being in charge of rolling out the pizza. I'm
guessing geometry wasn't his strong point in school.

Ps. If you're wondering, a grilled pizza is great, but a circular
grill doesn't really evenly heat a pizza shaped like a dinosaur, or
south Carolina (depending on the angle). Just keep that in mind, you
know, for future reference.

The bakery is haunted

Tonight anneh, Randall, and I went off to see toy story 3. The best
part was that it was playing at the kabuki on a 21 and over screen.
This meant no crying kids or snickering teens (yes I am aware this
makes me like 100 years old). I really enjoyed the film (Ken was
great!) even if I was surprised by how dark it seemed at times. Pixar
has done it again!

Now of you don't mind me, I gotta go hug my toys.

Ali moves on to office number 4!

This is Ali, I've known this gal for years now. Both she and I started
in the first sugar office, but now, she's leaving our comfy west coast
life and trading it in for the big apple. It's only a temporary
relocation, but well, you know ny has a way of getting to people.

Cheers Ali! We'll miss you! New York doesn't know what's coming its way!

addressing summer

i bought this dress almost two years ago, and i have only worn it once. it's not that i don't like it (i love it), it's that it's white. and more so, it's that i'm messy. real messy. i don't think there's a single day where i don't spill something. and because of that, i never wear this dress. in fact, there have been countless number of times where i've put the dress on, and then taken it off because i've been too terrified to wear it.

and yet, for some reason i mustered up the courage and wore it today. it must've been this whole first day of summer mostly nice weather thing.

and, for the record, i didn't spill a single drop on it.

ps. speaking of summer, randall's making mint chip ice cream right now so i must be going.
