Hogs, rocks, and lots o fries

This evening both anneh and I were in the office late (stragglers like
miss dk), so we decided to head out for some fries and beer. We went
to monk's kettle (which I like to call monkey castle) but it was
really crowded and there was no room at the bar. So we said farewell
to the monkey and decided to check out Hog and Rocks (real name, not
some fun nickname I gave it).

It was sort of a fiasco. Randall was joining us later and they
wouldn't seat us without an entire party, but our party wasn't going
to be complete for 30 minutes and there were plenty of empty tables.
They ended up awkwardly accomodating us and I know it was partly our
fault for fiasco, so I won't completely fault them for that weirdness.
However the service was bad. Our waitress came to take our order and
when we gave her our drink orders she turned to leave, we had to be
yell wait fries also and she spun around to leave again and then we
had to yell and heirloom tomato salad. It was so awkward. And then she
huffed at us later when we ordered more and she had to get a notepad
out because she couldn't rememeber it all. Also they tried to give us
food we didn't order and she didn't come back to take a second round
of drinks until it was too late. Mostly, I was unimpressed and
probably won't go back (although I must say the oysters were
delicious). Too bad, it would've been a fun new hangout with oysters.

Reset is similar to rest and I need both

Today started off all wrong, the alarm wasn't set, my bus pass is
missing, I spilled tea all over myself, and I tracked mud onto the
carpet. Also I now wear glasses and my hair wouldn't behave. It wasn't
all bad though, the second half, where I was at work until 7something
was fine. If you dont count the 7something. There was even my favorite
delivery pizza just for fun.

But, I'm going to bed now so I can reset the day and try again tomorrow.

Ps. I have ewan mcgregor singing hey Jude stuck in my head. It may be
the most random thing to have ever just appeared and gotten stuck in
my brain ever.

lazy sunday

i don't know why i'm giving randall the stare-eye, he must've done something ridiculous. or i did. not sure. either way it was a nice and lazy sunday. chores were done, video games played, dinner grilled, couches surfed (jasper or roland?), and emmy madness dealt with.

Couch surfing

Let me start by saying that you should put aside your feelings towards
Michael cera and go see Scott pilgrim. If you have ever loved a video
game and haven't seen it, you are truly missing out. Sure there are
plot holes and sure you have to completely suspend belief, but it was
haaawwesome. KO for Edgar wright and team!

This evening chris asked us if we wanted to go see it -- we were
actually thinking of going the night before, but Randall felt sick,
today he is better, so the timing was perfect. We had spent the day
running domestic errands and a fun outing was definitely needed.

The day itself was actually pretty good. I picked up the drycleaning
and then my glasses. The lenses had been crafted and I am now
officially a glasses wearer. I am not sure what I think. I don't love
the frames as much as I did before (let's just say they look really
different depending on how clean my hair is) but they're still fun.
Plus we went to three more glasses shops today and I didn't see
anything I liked more, so I guess that's a good thing. Randall however
did find new ones (he's the reason we went to all those shops). He
almost got a pair of enchanted reindeer horn frames (seriously this
particular line of frames is blessed by a Swedish grandmother or
something like that), but ended up deciding they looked too similar to
his current frames. He went a direction I did not anticipate, but the
lenses are being crafted, so we'll leave that story for another day.
They're good though.

Afterwards we had late brunch at chloe's cafe (cinnamon croissant
French toast with fresh strawberries) and then went to room and board
were we test drove couches for way too long. We finally decided on the
one to get (new couch has been on the list for almost three years)
only to come home and measure and realize that it won't really fit.
*insert gripe about how if only I had 1 more foot of space in each
direction here* Guess it's back to couch surfing for us.

Ps. Chris pointed out that my shirt (a chow shirt with a bunch of
knives on it) was highly appropriate for the film. I wonder if it's
coincidence or if the chow designer was a hardcore Scott pilgrim fan.
(there is a character called knives chau - pronounced chow, get it?)

Happy bday lizzy!

Lizzy's bday is on Sunday and since we won't be able to embarass her
then, we decided to embarass her today. It started off with an edible
fruit arrangement inside of a ceramic soccer ball (sadly no pics) and
ended (well at least my involvement who knows what else will happen)
with drinks with the Irish gals (aka happy hour at metropol).

A good chunk of the office came out for drinks (lizzy is pops), so i
didn't really get a chance to talk to the bday gal. It was fun though,
i chatted with folks i don't get to talk to often, and we even learned
the age of young phil (which immediately gave him the nickname young
phil).

Overall a good night was had, but i bailed. I'm dealing with a nasty
migraine and a night of pho and season four Dexter is calling my
name. Plus Randall has apparently caught my cold so it's my turn to
play nurse.

Happy bday lizzy! We'll have a bendie some other night!

we interrupt the scheduled program to bring you news on how i ate new york

when people asked what i was going to do in new york during my time off, i told them i had no plans. i wasn't that interested in tourist destinations or planned events (nor did i have time to plan events before hand). all i really wanted to do was eat. and eat i did.

overall, i had some really great eats. my favorite meal (well sort of a meal) was probably casellula, but that's because their cheese selection was out of this world, and vibe was perfect for the really messed up day. second place was probably ippudo, although i really enjoyed the sandwich and atmosphere at the smile, so they're sort of a toss up.

really, there were so many great eats, if you wanna see everywhere else i went, just keep on reading.

Campbell Apartment - tasty drink
Royalton Hotel Bar 44 - manly bourbon drinks served in an uptini glass
Bond 45 - i had the waiter order. i ended up with crabcake thing, i have no memory of walking here
Pastis - melissa shared this tastiness with me
Max Brenner - killing time with chocolate
Mercat - nice group dinner with tapas
Gramercy Park Hotel Bars - fancy shi shi bars that are a million times nicer than the hotel rooms (do not stay!)
Cafe Duke - day one at blogher, melissa helped us get some lunch
Momofuku Má Pêche - they didn't have the pork buns, but the ribs were delicious
Momofuku Milk Bar - compost cookies and crack pie!
BCD Tofu House - finally had the naeng myun
Magnolia - sara and i ate the entire banana pudding
Casellula - fave meal, such a great atmosphere and the cheese list is to die for
Shake Shack - tasty burgers and a seth meyers spotting!
Hotel Eventi Rooftop Bar - stay at this hotel they were totally high touch
wd-50 - happy anniversary to us, the food was great, playful but not obvious or annoying, and we got to meet the chef and peek into the kitchen (which was like mad science lab)
H&H Bagels - we tasted them against zabar's, h&h won.
Zabar's - but zabar's saved themselves with a delicious black and white cookie
Stumptown - we went everyday, it was just a couple blocks from our hotel and randall needed it.
Littlefield - went to see Hot Tub comedy and drinks
Bark - all the hole in the wall places our friend nate told us to go to were closed, so we barked it
The Smile - i fell in love with this place when i walked by it when we went to mercat, i was obsessed and had to go. so glad i did.
Think Coffee - randall needed refueling
Grimaldi's - randall needed NY pizza. i put the leftovers in my purse. it's why i can't have nice things.
Brooklyn Ice Cream - it started raining, but we had to wash pizza down with ice cream
Alta - dinner with karen lee and daniel!
(some undeground beer place in the village) - daniel brought us to this place and then left us, we had delicious beers
Ippudo NY - hot ramen on a hot day
Bon Chon Chicken - candied wings = love
Kyochon - but i think kyochon might be better, they get bonus points for plastic gloves
Cafe Select - dinner with anneh, julie and phil. chill place with solid food
Sundaes and Cones - two scoops: wasabi and lychee, both amazing
23rd Street Bagels - i had to end the trip with bagels for the road

Not a shabby list, but so many more places to go. Surprisingly, I only gained 1.5 pounds. Thank god for all the walking else I'm sure it would've been more like 15.

Getting my groove (in the couch) on

I had a hard time falling asleep last night, and when I was finally
able to it ended up being moot anyways. After just a couple hours of
restless shuteye, I woke up drenched in sweat, all my joints were
achey, my nose was runny, and i had the worst knot in my neck ever.
I'd been feeling a little crappy the last few days, but kept trying to
tell myself it was allergies. Guess I was wrong.

The worst part was I only had non-drowsy meds, which I took when I
woke up, and then I wasn't so sleepy. Which meant I was up for the
rest of the night miserable and boiling hot.

Needless to say, I didn't go to work today. Instead I built a nest on
the couch and watched a lot of netflix on demand. I haven't watched
this much tv in one sitting in a really long time. Although I was in
and out of sleep all day so I don't think it really counts as a solid
12 hours of watching.

I'm feeling a lot better now, at least fever and sweat are gone, now
if my nose would stop running I'd be all set.

Special thanks to Randall who stopped by the grocery store on his way
home and got me everything on my weird list, including the piece of
cake I snuck in there to see if he was paying attention.

Also special thanks to Erin for the chrono trigger. Finally got a
chance to play it. (see ds on floor)

Now if you'll excuse me, it's bedtime. Hopefully sleeping most of the
day won't cause a repeat of last night's up at 4am schedule.

My house thermostat says 86 degrees

And this is why I miss climate control. It is 10.20 at night and I'm
so unhappy. In addition to being uncomfortably warm, I think I have a
cold. My nose won't stop running and I might have a mild fever. I'm
not sure because it is so frigging hot. Every single window in the
house is open but the way the house sits on the hill means there's no
crossbreeze. Did I mention I think I'm sick? That or I suddenly suffer
from allergies that Randall does not (I find this hard to believe as
he's allergic to everything). Whine whine whine. I'm melting...

Summer in the city

Today was one of those rare warm weather days here in sf. The kind
that are so rare I can count them on two hands (maybe one). Generally
speaking, I love them (although I wish our office had that only needed
a few times a year climate control thing). Mostly because I love
walking around in the evening without wearing fifteen layers. In fact
this evening I was only wearing a tanktop. Amazing.

Sidenote: Randall and I had a nice impromptu date night!

Alisha's bay area birthday

After squandering a beautiful day indoors (cleaning booooooo), Randall
and I headed up to San anselmo to help Alisha celebrate her birthday.
Although alisha's got a sacto gang she's well loved by a bay area crew
too. So we all met up at insalata's where we enjoyed a delicious meal
and more than one super delicious drinks. Happy birthday alisha!
