Cupcakes and booze

After our allhands meeting, we partook in a floor warming party. You
see we've grown too big and needed more space on another floor. Turns
out that the "koolaid" that we drink here might be made out of, and I
quote Brian sugar here, "cupcakes and booze". Because well, that's
what we eat and drink here. There might be some tacos in there too.
It's sort of a secret recipe and I sort of love it because I have
drank an awful lot.

After work jeff and I met Carolyn, Nicole, and Randall at the yerba
buena. I wanted to check out technocraft before it ends this weekend
and jeff had been trying to plan a museum outing after work. The
highlight, which was a bonus surprise, were the interactive playcraft
stations. We got kicked out (it was closing) before we finished the
collection, and so we'll never know what it could've been. It didn't
matter though, we had fun, and then afterwards we stopped by
tropisueno for delicious eats.

Nom nom, double taco day with cupcakes and booze!

The end of a Sara era

I can't believe that Sara is leaving us. In fact, even though she told
us three months ago, we couldn't even plan her going away party until
this week. We just kept hoping she would change her mind. But like all
things in our department, it comes together in the end. We couldn't
think of anything more fitting than good Mexican food and drinks, so
tonight a gang of us got together and headed to Mercedes hair of the
dog for a farewell margarita and taco celebration.

The best part was that we made Sara bust open Dora the piñata. For her
birthday we bought Dora, but sara couldn't do it. We said it was fine,
but today, dora's time had come. Yet no matter how long sara beat up
Dora she wouldn't bust open. Eventually Sara broke dora's leg and we
all rejoiced with candy. A super appropriate ending to sara's time at
sugar, don't you think?!

Sara, are you sure you're leaving?! I miss you already!

impromptu dinner party

the office today was a literal sweatshop. we're on the 15th floor and have direct sun shining on us all day. it's normally not an issue, but on hot days like today, it's misery. we all wilt and sweat and melt to our seats. because of this, i left early. at 5:15 i couldn't take it anymore and headed home. with the extra bit of time (for comparison sake, i left the office after 7 yesterday), i decided to cook dinner. i picked up a bunch of great veggies at the farmer's market and decided to roast them, puree them and turn them into a delicious soup. yes, i know, soup on a hot day is stupid. but it's so delicious and besides fresh chicken tortilla soup is really a summer soup. if the veggies aren't delicious and ripe, then the soup is bland. lucky for me, the veggies were great. and lucky for samshrew and chris, i knew there'd be extra, so i invited them over. they're our go-to meat-eater pals, and i don't feel the need to clean for them, so they luck out on the nomminess.

Bang bang yer dead

Simply put, these bangs are too long. Simply put, today was too hot
(whine about the lack of climate control in the office). Simply put,
it was too annoying to cook, so i went to tacos instead. Simply put,
it's time for early bed.

to tennessee and beyond

alisha is an amazing kind of friend, who always comes up with reasons to hang out. friendships like hers are great for people like me who love to get together, but are too lame to initiate anything. today her plan involved meeting up in mill valley at the head of the tennessee valley trail, where me, randall, alisha, nick, niki, leon, and little ira went on a wee hike (if you can call it that, it's more like a nice walk) to tennessee beach.

the walk was nice, the weather sort of perfect (sunny, warm but with a breeze, and a nice mist once we got to the beach), and the company fantastic. afterwards we went to san rafael and ate some delicious puerto rican food. the fried mashed plantains smothered in cheese were all kinds of awesome.

later, after i ended the perfect afternoon with a fabulous nap on the couch, samshrew stopped by to show off her new toy. she's been talking about buying a honda fit for months and months now (you know, so long that you start to doubt she's really going to buy one) and finally pulled the trigger. she got a good deal and can now drive to my house to hang out. congrats samshrew!

now for some more photo fun!

Randall gets iked (caturday with a view)

Today was mojito weather, you know sunny, warm, a little sticky and
without agenda. The only problem was while I had rum, lime, simple
syrup, and club soda, I had no mint. Clearly I had to remedy that and
so I headed down to the grocery store. But first Randall and I decided
to call up ike's and order some sandwiches.

That's right folks, ike's is still around. They're now cooking out of
lime's kitchen and you have to phone in the order. I had me the cowboy
Curtis (imagine a rueben with BBQ sauce and smoked Gouda) and randall
had the ménage-a-trois. His was chicken with three types of cheese,
honey, and BBQ sauce. They were delicious but messy. As you can see
Randall is wearing his BBQ sauce.

We scored our sandwiches, bought some drinks and headed to duboce
park. We devoured our food and were those creepy folks hanging out
watching dogs without owning a dog. We did that for a while and then
headed home, grabbing some mint on the way.

Once i got home I went straight to mojito making. Samshrew and chris
decided to join us in our warm evening lazing about. They even brought
us lambsteaks for bbqing and a sushi dog for harassing. I put cat ears
on her this time.

Afterwards we walked up to the Randall museum, played on the swings,
and took in the view. The harvest moon and clear skies were just
awesome. A purrrfect end to the lazy mojito caturday.

Super nerd Friday (happy birthday Melissa edition)

Today Melissa secret squirreled her birthday from us (or we forgot it,
depending on how you look at it). Luckily we know how to pull it
together at the last minute and there was cake, flowers, and gummi
candies. Plus her family and friends sent so much more cake. The
birthday girl was super cute and I think she secretly loved all the
unattention.

In nerd Friday news, I told Randall to find us something to do
tonight. Normally he opts for nothing or a movie, but tonight he hit
it out of the park with free opera at the ballpark. The sf opera was
being simulcast for free, and that sounded great. Anneh and Dylan
joined us and we all had our nerd glasses on in order to better read
the subtitles. The weather was amazing, still pleasant at 11pm, and
cultured fun was had by all. Especially the part where we ate
melissa's left over birthday cake.

Happy birthday meliss!

A very long engagement indeed

This morning I woke up early and drove to Santa Clara for the engage
virtual goods conference. It was informative, and then boring. The
morning had some good things to digest, the afternoon not so much.

I got there right on time, the first panel had just started, but I got
there much later than I wanted. That driving on freeways thing during
high-traffic times is for the birds. I'd forgotten how much traffic
sucks. Randall, I'm sorry you have to do that a couple days a week,
but no, we are not moving down there. Freeways and sprawl? Ugh, what
is it LA?

Lunch today was good and busy and I met some nice folks, but the first
break was snoozetown. Zzzzzzzz. Speaking of which, it's time to go
catch some.

Getting ready for the ol' married lady gang

Meet Kristy, she's getting married this weekend! To help her
celebrate, a gang of us headed out for wine o'clock after work. I
spouted off too many stories about weddings and we all drank a bunch
of wine. Kristy is going to have a fabulous wedding. I can't wait to
see pics! Congrats KK!
