To hill with it

This morning I left the house without going thru the checklist. Thus I left the my phone, my coat, and a glass of iced tea at home. The coat wasn't needed during the day. (In fact it was so nice we ferry buildinged it -- il cane rosso's warm egg sandwich from the 7x7 list if you're wondering.) However at night it was needed. I know because I walked home in the fuzzyhair causing fog and was chilled. Although it wasn't that bad, the walk up the hill generally warms me up. You know why? It's steep and gigantic, even if it doesn't look it in the pictograph. Trust me on that one.

dog day afternoon

dog party

this afternoon a gang of us headed down to k9 playtime for jesusita's quinceanera. jesusita is burger's 15 year old teeny tiny chihuahua, and to help her celebrate her ripe old age, burger threw her a bash. that's right, we went to a dog party.

there were quite a few pups there, and proud pup owners. there were even a few impostors there (like ourselves, and annie and dylan who also do not own a dog). we watched puppies play, ate cake and sang happy birthday. chris even ate some of the dog cake (peanut butter and carrots or something like that. he said it was dry. and for the record he didn't realize it was dog cake). we also got to meet new pups like gene's dog squeegee (sorry gene for not making the illustration, i ran out of space - but if it's any consolation, your dog is the one randall wanted to steal the most).

burger's invite said to dress to impress, so randall put on his professor outfit (the long hair combed over and the beard solidifed the look), and i wore this ridiculous skirt that is normally reserved for holiday parties). some of the other folks were dressed up (not as many as i hoped) and some of the pups also were in outfits. sadly, because of a junk filter fiasco, sushi was not one of them. i was going to make her a skirt, but i thought samshrew never emailed me size restrictions. guess the internet didn't want any dog showing up the quinceañera queen.

afterwards randall and i went to a so-so open house and then ran to target. yes we were still in our ridiculous outfits.

Hey this isn't cheese

This morning I remembered that one of my favorite galleries (fabric8) was having a birthday extravaganza. All the art was 15% off and so I decided to go check it out. There were some great pieces, but we ended up walking away empty handed. The one we really both want (by kevin earl taylor) is in that unjustifiable price range, and really needs, no deserves, a better wall than what we currently have to display it. To rub salt in our sad art wound, I'm sure the artist will become uber famous and his artwork will cost even more zeroes soon. Then we will cry and lament our poor decision. Until then we just covet.

After checking out all the artwork, we decided to wander about. Lunch was the goal and so we headed up mission st. Randall remembered that there was a rosamunde down there now and so we headed there. We split a beer sausage (that makes three 7x7 list eats in a row, you know in case you were keeping tabs on my eating), some fries and sour beer. Why'd we split the dog? Didn't want to pig it at lunch. After all, we had to save room for anthony's cookies n cream cookies (make that four 7x7 places). The consistency of his cookie is perfection. Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. Nom indeed.

Sadly, the eating adventures stopped there. They were supposed to continue with 10+ types of cheese, but unfortunately karen, our lovely cheese party host, has the flu and the party was cancelled. Karen, I hope you feel better soon!

Ps. Wuwu, hope you had a good show tonight!

Nerd friday: north beach style

After work some of the game crew went out to dinner at don pistos. Adam (erin's beau) works there and we thought it would be a fine place to celebrate. Kate planned the hijinx (as the newly pregnant lady she gets to choose), so Josh, Erin, tod, his gal judy, and i went along for the ride. Besides don pistos is actually really delicious and bonus, their hamburguesa was just added to the 7x7 100 things you need to eat list. After eating it tonight, I understand why. That thing was like the perfect burger. It melded into one perfect mass of bun, burger, and condiments. Plus, the spice was nice. I would definitely eat this burger again. And I highly recommend you give it a try too.

Afterwards we walked around north beach and ended up at Stella pastry. We ran into Q, his boyfriend, and their crew while there. Erin took the opportunity to show off her new star wars book with special platform. Needless to say, she was a hit with the geek crowd.

On a mission

This evening Randall and I met up with Melissa and dror for a little mission Chinese food. Actually, make that a lot of mission Chinese food. We ordered six items and pigged out a bit more than we should have. However I wouldn't have had it any other way. Mission Chinese food is delicious, and there were too many yummy dishes to try. And good food and good company equals totally fun night indeed.

So hey food team, where are we going next?!

Those Eldredge girls pigout and the gang gets froyo

Samshrew is transferring offices in a few days, and that meant we had to squish in one last sf lunch. We sadly don't have lunch that often, but when we do, we make sure it is delicious. Today we headed to john's for some sushi-esque rolls, and kimchi bulgogi burritos. It was definitely delicious. And, since it was such a nice day outside, we sat on the less crowded crocker roof (that's right there are two roof gardens!). On our way there we walked past the creme brûlée cart and added a bonus Pb chocolate creme brûlée to our meal. It even made the nice cracking noise although the spoons were plastic.

Sadly, there was a big backend release today, so I had to jet back quickly to help out. Everything went smoothly though and afterwards we treated ourselves to frozen yogurt. Victoria and I went rogue choosing cafe ambrosia over yoppi. It just tastes better.

And yes, this means I had a two dessert lunch. Don't be jealous it could be your life too.

Ps. After work we went to happy hour mostly just because and also to say congrats to Kate and Josh on their upcoming n00b!

now i can choose between the mean reds and the blues

i have an iced tea problem. no really i do. if it's not iced tea, it's bubbly water.

i also have an i'll throw it out later problem. despite the trash being 1 foot to the right of my desk. mostly because i forget to drink the last 1/4 inch and leave it on my desk for later.

this means that on most days, my desk is littered with a smattering of beverages. today the sugar dev crew headed out for coffee and ethan took one look at my desk and asked if i needed anything, like perhaps more plastic cups. i told him why yes i'm sure i could use some more empty plastic cups (to go with the three on my desk and the two bottles). har har good laugh had at my expense.

but then, to my surprise, when they came back from the coffee run, he had indeed brought a new plastic cup! this one was blue and reusable just like my red one. now i can choose between the mean reds or the blues.

the desk/cup photo which actually has another cup right off frame, and a wine glass too.

The napping explained

If I was to believe everything in my 23andme.com report (results back today) I would never leave the house and start becoming OCD about germs and every disease out there. Only I wouldn't actually become OCD, as I have a decreased risk for that.

What I do apparently have an increased risk for is narcolepsy. Those of you who knew me in college start laughing now. At least all those naps finally have an explanation.

The calendar says January, but I'm pretty sure it's summer

Today was sort of a perfect day, the weather was great and the schedule relaxing. It was the sort of day weekends should always be. Here's the rundown of my day:

- wake up
- read magazines
- eat cinnamon cereal
- play video games
- clean the bathroom (booo on this one)
- do the dishes
- fold laundry
- eat Thai sweet potato soup
- check out some good open houses (this is the first one we should bid on but probably won't) and one we'd been to before a couple years ago
- hang out at ocean beach (the wind was too weak for kites but my image allows us all to pretend)
- grab a bubble tea
- wander the outer sunset window shopping and eating candy
- shop at sunset super for some Asian pantry staples
- chat with my dad
- roast a delicious chicken for dinner (thanks to fresh sage & thyme from Laura)
- skype with morm (seriously one of my favorite things ever)
- wash my hair (yay clean bathroom)
- veg out with a little teevee
- cry because the weekend is about to end

The mccormies come to town

Grant is joining the mid-century modern revolution (dragging and co with him) and decided to come up to the city to check out some furniture. After they kicked the tires (metaphorically speaking) on some Noguchi tables, we met up with them at plow in Potrero hill. The wait was far too long, so we said no thanks and headed out to serpentine instead. Now I shouldn't tell you about it, because so far it's proving itself to be an excellent brunch with no wait. I'd say it was my secret place, but the lovely Shannon was there too. Looks like she's in the know!

After brunch (baked eggs for me om nom nom!) Alexander, Abigail, and I killed some time with funny photos. It was all fun and games until it was deemed funny to try and lick the screen. For the record it wasn't me who thought that.

When we had enough photos and grant dealt with the gal who dinged his car and was leaving a note on an envelope in lipgloss, we all said farewell. They were continuing on their midcentury modern adventure, and Randall and I headed over the bay for an ikea/west elm run. We're looking for chairs to go with our dining table thing, and I wanted to see a few things I liked online. Good thing we did, I didn't like them in person. It was a total wasted trip, but at least the bridge view on the way back was worth it.
