every day's a new dumb adventure

mind the gap.

in case you missed it, the interwebs is all a flutter over the new gap logo. i am one of the many who also think, gah! what were they thinking?! and i sit next the graphic designers at work, and they are also up in arms over it. today the conversation was about gap's new crowdsourcing plan, and whether or not this crappy logo was part of the plan all along. if it was, then kudos to gap, i assume there are more people checking out gap.com than normal. however, knowing the way large corporations work (i didn't always work at fun startups) i can't imagine this was intentional. besides, i bought these jeans a month ago, and looky here it's the new logo. if it was all just a big ploy to generate buzz, why would they have bothered to print them in the jeans? also now, in violation of (as elsa calls it) design law, they're going to have people create a new logo for free. sorry good graphic designers, that's all you're worth now.

ps. for the record, i never liked the old gap logo, but at least it was iconic and not terrible (see back pair of jeans for reference).

a Gap corporate friend of mine says this new logo is the result of many focus groups saying that the brand is not relevant to them anymore, and thus, the new design is supposed to signify that Gap is now thinking outside the box. . . hence, the word "Gap" is outside of the tiny blue box. Oh you didn't catch that by looking at it? yeah me neither.

Ugh, it's the stupid square that bugs me, too. And I feel like they did the layering wrong in photoshop.

they must've had someone design their new logo for free, too, because it is stupid. it looks like something you'd see on a cheap european drink or metro card. easy to print on everything, just get the font and color right. mreh. funny i had no idea this was going on and i could've lived the rest of my life not knowing anything about it but now i totally have an opinion on it! stupid gap.
