Coming up rosita

The other day our pal Heidi told Randall that they were moving. We assumed this meant moving from the area and were a little bummed to hear the news. Turns out they meant they were moving from one part of Los altos to another. At least that's the plan. Their house sold already, and they're in negotiations for a new compound. Seriously, the marketing flier for the new place says compound.

However one last cozy cup of tea at the rosita still sounded good, so Randall and I headed down the peninsula for dinner. We met them at home, where grant surprised everyone by shaving off his 10 year goatee. Heidi was clearly in shock, but managed to pull it together long enough to go out to dinner. We dined at Pompeii (really solid bolognese, meatballs just okay) and then headed back to the soon not to be their custom home. Abigail and Alexander were in goofy form, and there was both a blanky and light saber war, as well as silly photos. After the kids were in bed, we sat around, drank wine and tea, and chatted mostly about facebook and midcentury modern homes and furniture. That's grant's new thing, but he's got a lot to learn.

Good luck with the counter kiddos! Can't wait to see the compound!

Them dudes stole my money

Somehow Randall and I made the cut for poker night. These dudes had
regular games for a while, but we never made the roster. However, they
have apparently exhausted all their friends who are willing to part
with money and so they gave us a call. It was a $20 buy in for each
game (we ended up playing 2) and the money was split into three prizes
each time. I'm happy to say I held my own in game one (I came in third
and blame the wine and quick pace for my ridiculous bets - seriously
ridiculous bets).

In the end, I was thirty bucks in the hole, but I had a great time.
Plus, heidi (our gracious host, pictured) had a fantastic spread set
out for us. And her friend made us the most tasty almond fruit tart.
Good company + good food + games = fun, even if them dudes stole my
money.
