Weiner dogs, ponies, ice cream sandwiches, and source codes

Today was a jam-packed fun day of spontaneity. Randall and I started off by meeting anneh and Dylan at golden gate fields for the national Weiner dog races. That's right, loads of local Weiner dogs (over 100) head to the race track to strut their stuff. They race between the horse races, and the best part is that since they're amateur racers, most of them don't actually go the right way. Still so fun and there were just so many pups to make friends with!

After the puppies and ponies, we parted ways and Randall and I headed to Berkeley to hang out with jamers. He was rewriting an essay and had plans later so we just did a quick ice cream sandwich break at C.R.E.A.M. I had a chocolate chip and peanut butter cookie with strawberry ice cream. It was tasty, but mostly just wonderfully priced. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there but at only $2 you can't go wrong.

Once we had our fill of ice cream we wished jamers good luck on his essay and headed home. I was sundrained and tired but not ready for the day to end. So we called up samshrew and chris and made a movie date. They're out in the suburbs now so we met them at tanforan mall to check out source code. It wasn't what I thought it would be (well it was close, but not what I thought) and I definitely enjoyed it. Did i love it? Not really, but i did like it. Solid B. Afterwards we went to rolling pin for donuts. They were greasy but tasty and went perfect in my accidental eat only crap day.

Medium night out is a win win

This evening Randall and I met up with Karen, shin, and April for a little underground market feasting. We got there at 5:50 and there was already a bit of a line. Luckily it was early enough that there was a huge line. We got in relatively quickly (once they finally opened the doors) and went in search of noms. There were some delicious things (bacon wrapped mochi was yums) and some so-so stuff too (the charcuterie place's gumbo was just okay tonight). However there were two things that really stood out. One was the jerk chicken: perfect flavor, nice spice and totally good price. The other was the Guinness chocolate cake with red beet ice cream. That was one of the most tasty desserts ever. I hope people got a chance to try it, they were sort of buried behind the chicken and waffles line. Overall it was good, but maybe too crowded and man if you got there anytime after 6:30, holy crap that line was out of control.

Afterwards shin and Randall pooped out and us gals went to see win win. Karen and April both really liked it, but I give it a b+ and agree that it is probably better than most. Also, I'm glad films like that get distribution and are being made. But, as I pointed out to April, I don't know what's wrong with me. In real life I LOL all the time and easily too. However at movies or tv it is a super rare thing. My standards are set way high. In this instance, I didn't LOL once, but I did smirk a lot. And if you like non-hollywoodized stories, I'd go check it out.

up, up, and away

this evening deirdre hooked randall and us up with tickets to up (the movie). originally she and melissa were supposed to come with us, but dk couldn't get out of a meeting, and melissa was feeling sick.

well folks, it was their loss. i LOVED this film. it is my new favorite pixar film, and so much fun. and i loved how they weren't your typical heroes -- crazy old man, fat asian boy scout, talking dog, and a giant bird -- quirky in a good way, and never annoyingly so. sure the plot was ridiculous and has a couple of random holes in it, but the house with all the balloons looked incredible, and it is a cartoon folks! also it might have made me wellington... okay i confess it totally made me wellington. i could not believe how sweet and sad the beginning was, but we'll just leave it at that so that I don't ruin it for you. just go see it. it was fun and adorable. if you have kids and they want to see it, take them, it'll be worth your while. i mean come on folks, talking dogs! and not in an oh the dogs are randomly talking cartoon way!

while out i was hoping to stick deirdre's face on a balloon and set it on "up" but sadly, they didn't have any balloons for us. because of that, we had to make due. here's us with her in the theatre.

ps. sorry melissa, i couldn't get the printer to work, so wasn't able to print out a picture of you. also, dk got the tickets so well, you know...

live long and prosper my friends

who would've known that dk here was such a nerdz? apparently she's a big ol' trekkie fan, and so she secured us some seats to the new star trek. and i'll just go ahead and nerd out right along with her because it was freaking awesome. i loved it, and i loved how they can start an entire new franchise without worrying about continuity, and i loved the casting and i just thought it was fun fun fun. i'll stop there so that i don't ruin anything for the rest of you.

aftewards dk and i tried to strike a live long and prosper pose. i think we've got some work to do.

ps. i wanted to really nerd out for you, but my bangs are not freshly shorn. i think you can put two and two together. maybe someday you'll get lucky.

pps. lucy and co. were going tonight as well, i thought maybe i'd see them, but it was an imax theatre and those are huge. oddly enough she sat down in front of me.

ppps. i forgot to mention it, so i'm adding this in now. i LOVED the future/semi-scandinavian styled clothing of the vulcans. there was at least one sweater i wanted to make, and 4 other things i wanted to steal. that's all.
