tonight was the first session for 826 valencia's bayfarer issue 30. it's a 5 week newspaper writing workshop for 8-12 year olds, and i've volunteered to tutor. last time my reporter (they're reporters, us adults are editors) was the nerdy straight A overachiever student. This time i was paired with the rowdiest kids in the class. they couldn't sit still, they couldn't focus, and they had absolutely no idea what they were going to write about. the other two boys at the table couldn't stop laughing, and the other girl was the quietest person i've ever met. seriously she was like this loud. it was almost like she could only mouth words and had no vocal chords. she was cute though, i can't wait to see what she writes. can't wait to see what they all come up with.
today i started reading hugh laurie's book the gun seller (yes, that hugh laurie). when i got on my new library kick (i discovered they had all the comics i wanted to read), randall complained that last time i requested the gun seller (for him a few years ago, he is lamers and doesn't have his own card), the request expired before it was filled. so i went ahead and put it on hold again. it showed up a few days later (man i love technology) and i brought it home only to have randall say, "oh i'm pretty sure i read this already."
i guess it did show up last time.
ps. i am only a chapter or so in, but this book seems like totally fun wordplay so far. for example (and maybe this is just my inner food nerd talking) check out this passage: "Someone had once told me that talking out loud helps clarify things. I'd said would it work with butter?" See? genius.
now the question is do i go with hugh laurie the author tonight? or hugh laurie house season finale?
