Friends, Romans, Mini Countryman is our new wheels

Today we bid adieu to the beloved "baller" Audi and hello to the new mini countryman. It was just time for something new and so Randall, who is a total car guy, preordered it. It arrived last week, but there was a font fiasco and the DOT didn't let them out. That meant no oversized bows for us on Christmas. But, it's a holiday miracle, they were released before the new year and ours was waiting for us at the dealer. And while it might not be as baller as the Audi, it is pretty dang sweet. It is sorta huge though. It's so tall like a mini suv. I mean really, it's barely a mini, but it sure is fun.

Audi you served us well (except for that time you died in the middle of nowhere Oregon and we had to go back and fetch you a week later), and I hope you find a fun new owner (and that you don't have issues because man your repairs were expensive!).

And countryman, welcome to the family. It's time to go for a ride in the country!

Ps. Man the rain!

Hot in the pot

I woke up this morning to a ringing telephone; it was morm calling for
no reason. We talked for nearly four hours. Afterwards it was time for
some open houses (one pretty good but not a wow), then back home to
talk to my dad. And then it was time for hot pot. We owed samshrew and
chris a dinner and chris wanted to cash in with hot pot. All you can
eat and drink for $29.99, nom nom nom.

Ps. Chris ate so much he's going to be ill all over samshrew. See?

as thick as thieves

after beer o'clock, dk offered me a ride home, and since i am always looking for a way to avoid my hill, i naturally responded yes.

on our way home we stopped to fill up the tank, and since it was nearly 8pm, we also pondered dinner. at some point dk decided she wanted ike's and i always say yes to that. sadly, even when you call ahead, ike's takes forever.

so with 30 minutes to kill and a tank full of gas, we drove around doing a lot of nothing, dancing to the radio. we went up tiny alleys and around the mint, and we almost died like twice, but it was funs.

ps. garrick once said that dk and i were "as thick as thieves." - i hadn't thought of it that way before, but i suppose it works. this is assuming of course that thieves are loud obnoxious folks that laugh too much.

Opportunity is Fleet

this evening kicked off a very busy week. first i met up with burger and randall for a chocolate and cachaca party hosted by the tablehopper. and then we popped in for a mediocre dinner at caffe sport (the place is cute, but the food was just so-so) and then we headed up to the rickshaw stop to say howdy ho to baby grand (who were adorably cute in person btw).

somewhere in all of this we ended up in the fortune cookie parking garage (each parking spot has a "fortune" stenciled on it). our message was "Opportunity is Fleeting" and i don't know how i feel about this one. is the world trying to tell me that i need to grab a hold right now because if i don't, i'll regret it all later? is there an opportunity that i am about to miss? should i be paying more attention to things? and just how does one get this introspective because of a parking spot?

ps. this post is brought to you by the color orange - trust me you just had to be there.

pps. the angle of this photo is wild, that is my foot not my hand in a boot.

Waiting around

The weather in san francisco is what one might call "unseasonably warm." Only, I"m pretty sure it was this warm last november. So does that mean it's actually seasonably warm?

Today we're helping chris out by taking him to the airport at the last minute. Right now we're waiting in the "unseasonably warm" car. The temperature gauge says it's nearly 80 outside. I am in shorts.

I don't mind the warm weather and actually enjoy it. What I do mind is walking past stores trying to sell me scarves and giant parkas. Where were they when we were freezing in july?

me and the boys out for a drive

morning after the big ol' chinese wedding banquet (see bonus photo inset, complete with bottle of cognac). randall and i picked up scottelbot and headed to temple to meet the rest of my family. I don't go to temple often, and I generally don't invite folks to come, but I thought he might need it. I think he got some answers, I just don't know if they're the ones he's looking for.

after temple we went to dim sum for more feasting. I can't believe that scottel and i have been friends for twelve years and that he's never had dim sum before. also, i don't know why i look like i'm about to look smug.

ps. is it still a "self-portrait" if there are other folks in the picture? let's just say it is.
