every day's a new dumb adventure

Aug 2, 2009

not that i had anything better to do...

but i didn't expect to spend part of my sunday on the phone with the sheraton chicago. seriously, the place was really nice, and everyone super friendly, but communication, especially regarding billing and checkout and internet, just seemed lacking. actually lacking's not the right word, more like a who's on first sort of thing. also if the credit card on file doesn't have enough digits, isn't that something they should've mentioned to me before i checked out?

anyways, it's not like it ruined the day or anything -- i'm just bitching -- i mean i still managed to do nothing, eat foods, and sleep a lot.

ps. i was going to show you a picture of me in these sweet mom jeans, but well i am apparently too vain for that (for the record, they're normal gap jeans, and i used to like them, but they've faded to a weird "blue jeans" color, and fit sort of differently than they used to and now i think of mom jeans everytime i wear them).

would it kill you to say goodbye?

my mom -- as you may have suspected -- is a bit of a character. and since i am the lucky child, i am privy to this over the phone more often than my siblings. (and by lucky i mean the one with a job she feels she can interrupt because she doesn't understand what i do anyways -- which you know, sometimes i don't either).

when she calls she doesn't say hello. she just jumps directly into conversation. sometimes she just wants you to spell things, sometimes she needs you to look stuff up for her, and sometimes she just calls to say hi. oh and she calls at all times of the day or night, 9am, 9pm, 11am, 11pm, it doesn't matter. she once called me at 10:30am to spell the word "poop" - no joke.

i actually strangely love her calls. sure she drives me crazy half the time, but the calls are rather endearing. the only thing that drives me absolutely mad is the fact that she doesn't say goodbye. when she's done with you she sort of just hangs up, and you're left going "so um yah...hello? are you there?"

*sigh*

it's a peautiful day!

my morm has this thing she says. the phrase is, "that's a peautiful."

we're not sure if it was meant to be beautiful or pitiful. we think it was supposed to be pitiful, but we prefer the idea of her fully understanding sarcasm and saying beautiful instead. for example, if you tell her that someone sent the wrong paperwork, she would say, "that's just peautiful." -- see, it could be pitiful (as in they did a pitiful job) or beautiful (as a sarcastic way of saying they screwed up).

to be honest, we still haven't figured it out, but it doesn't really matter now. you see, the two words have become fully interchangable. that's right, in our household we use the same word for beautiful and pitiful. for example, you can say, "the weather is gorgeous, it's so peautiful outside today." or you could say, "he did a peautiful job and totally screwed up the order." sure it's a bit confusing, but i prefer to think of it as open to interpretation.

so you tell me, was it a peautiful day, or a peautiful day?

does this look like a reject?

this morning a little wrapped cookie on a stick was waiting for me on my desk. i didn't know who it was from, but when i found out i felt like a fool. of course it was from angelica. she is the queen of cute things and thoughtful gifts.

she is also the queen of letting you know of a good bargain. so it should come as no surprise that as soon as i told her thanks, she told me that it was one of the "rejects." you know, no offense. not that i would have taken any. besides it tasted great, i didn't get a hint of reject at all.

ps. thanks for the dinner samshrew!

and nine hours later, it's as if we never left

it's hard to believe we woke up in scottel's house this morning. this whole weekend has seemed like an unreal blur, and now that i'm back at home i barely can believe it happened.

when we left scottel's house, randall was behind the wheel, but a little while later i took over. i didn't get a chance to take a picture in the car (it was raining pretty hard, i was driving, and randall was sleeping and couldn't play photo assistant), so i figured that i'd give you an awesome recreation. this face was the one i had when i was being blinded by the wall of rain and fog and forgot that i had sunglasses at arms reach. also i was pretty sleepy. see the whole too many types of drinks thing from yesterday.

ps. we made it home in just over 9 hours. not too shabby. it's because i was driving fast, just like this picture here demonstrates.
