every day's a new dumb adventure

Someone had way too much fun with Photoshop

This evening Annie and I went to her pals' Josh and Antonia's wedding.
We had a good time and chatted with some good people. Afterwards we
decided to go to the whistler, but there was a line outside and I
don't do bars with lines. However if we hadn't had to pause outside I
never would've seen this awesome photography studio that was next door.

This was some of the most awesome/bad Photoshop work I have ever seen.
Believe me if we weren't traveling right now (read: lazy no tripod and
lights) I would have remade this masterpiece for you. But since I
can't, I knew I at least had to share it with you.why can't i

things get a little surreal (is there pork in my hair?)

This picture is from last night, but since i didn't go to sleep, it was actually from today (besides it was taken in the wee hours of the morning, so it technically counts as a new day).

And yes, i said i didn't go to sleep. I can't remember the last time i pulled a party allnighter. I didn't mean to, it just happened that way. Events just kept getting a little more ridiculous, and the next thing i knew, it was time to pack and go to the airport.

So what is going on here? This is Carlos, he's a musician from Cuba, and he and his friends roasted a whole pig behind their bar. We stumbled upon it, and i guess he could tell that erin and i were porkfat fiends because the next thing i knew, we had pulled pork pieces all over everything. He made sure to feed us the best bits (between the ribs, and the bit below the skin). It was a delicious garlic/onion porky flavor, and while i didn't get to eat any "must eat" Chicago foodie things, i think it was a perfect foodie adventure.

Oh and if you click on the bonus photo to the right, you can see just how porky everything was. OINK OINK. dude, there was pork in my hair.

Don't look down. That's 103 stories.

I played hooky from the last session today and headed over to the
sear's tower. I know it's called the Willis tower now, but in my mind
it will always be the sear's.

When I got there, the guy told me it was going to be a three hour
wait. The line was moving really quickly, so I assumed he was crazy.
He wasn't. It took 25 minutes to get in to the first elevator. And
then at that point there was a 2 hour wait. Luckily money can buy
happiness in certain circumstances and this was one of them. For
double the price you could buy a fast pass that puts you less than 10
minutes to the top. Folks, my time is worth $15. And in about 30
minutes, I was 103 stories up.

I got some cool picks from the new observation deck (dude, it's all
glass even the floor!), but felt this video was really a better way to
show you what was going on.

And yes I know it's touristy as hell, but well, I am a tourist.

oh hai chicago, that's a mighty big bean you got.

this afternoon, the shutter sisters were hosting a few awesome photo things in their suite. as a total photo nerds, i knew i had to stop by and meet them. one of the things they were hosting were Chicago walkabouts sponsored by the folks at lensbaby. Lensbaby, if you're not familiar with it, is a very unfancy lens (at a semi-unfancy price) that produces mostlyfancy results. it's like an old school holga fixed lens on your digital camera, only this one you can adjust just a wee bit more. needless to say i loved it.

the walkabout took us down to Millennium park -- which was a nice treat, as i sort of thought i might spend the entire weekend inside of this hotel -- where i fell in love with chicago. I know, it's sort of ridiculous to fall in love with a city based on one park, but i did. it was also the outlying architecture surrounding the park. from where i was standing, chicago just looks like a cool place to be. and that's definitely cool as in neat, because my god the humidity made it anything but cool. i for sure thought i'd melt. i think some of my candy did.

this pic was taken with many other tourists down at the bean. that thing is pretty neat. i thought it was dumb at first, but then i stood inside. total neat.
