my eyes have been bothering me a lot this past week. as in enough to have to stop and put eyedrops in them sort of bothering me (and i don't wear contacts or glasses). i'm not sure why they're so bad, i think it's a combination of reading in poor light before bed, not sleeping enough, wind, and allergies. at some point today i walked into the bathroom and noticed that they looked really bloodshot. actually i am pretty sure i looked stoned.
i forgot to take a picture then, so this is now at home (where they are still bloodshot, but not quite as bad). also i decided to opt out of the fun friday things my life had to offer (happy birthday laura, happy record release virginia), and just stay home. nerd friday returns.
ps. for the record, i was not getting high at work.

I woke up this morning feeling pretty excited. We spent the evening ringing in the good news at Kete’s house, and then honked our horns as we drove through the city. It was great until we got to the Castro — while I’m sure folks were celebrating, there was still a tension in the air because of Prop 8 (sidenote: California, I'm disappointed in you). In fact there were helicopters hovering over our neighborhood until well after midnight. Maybe longer, but I passed out before then.
When the radio alarm went off this morning, it was in the middle of Obama’s speech, and while it was just as moving today as it was yesterday, I couldn’t help but say out loud, “Don’t fuck it up.” Don’t get me wrong. I am hopeful, I am optimistic, I am thrilled. I am just also a realist. So please don’t F it up, we’re counting on you.
Although I should add, it sort of feels like something’s right already. Perhaps it was just the folks on my Bart train, but there was definitely happiness in the air. I had people make eye contact and smile at me, and someone even offered to share their hanging-on-for-dear-life pole. It was sort of spectacular, and melted my cynical heart just a wee bit.

Lately I have been trying my best not to leave the house on Sundays. It doesn't always work out, but today it did. And by "don't leave the house" I mean just not going out in public and doing things. I actually stepped outdoors several times, mostly for garden tending. It ends up being a nice relaxing day where chores can get done, and there's time for real breakfast and dinner. And the very best part of not leaving the house means i don't have to comb my hair, or put on any makeup. So here you have it, unkempt hair, big pores and all.
ps: yah yah yah i know. enough with the eyebrows already, they're getting tidy'd up this week.
