A gathering storm

When I go to a show I generally want to be as close as possible in order to take in both the sights and the sounds. However this evening we went to see Godspeed You! Black Emperor and there was no need to get up close. For starters there's no lights on the band (in fact half of them are in chairs, some not even facing you), but mostly it's not a band you watch. It's a band you feel. You just sit back and let the music wash over you. I had never seen them live before and thought I never would (come on, who even knew they were still together). Tonight's show went on for over two hours and from my point of view (an epic brooding post rock lover) it was phenomenal. Sure there were a few sleepytown parts, and sure there were spots were it maybe rocked just a little too hard for my personal taste, but overall it was enchanting. And bonus, this means we had an actual saturday night date night. I even did the gold eye makeup just for fun.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm still reveling in Godspeed and must go mope in the corner.

Ps. I can't believe how non-stop the rain was today

Waiting for the lights

Tonight is turning out to be a bust. After spending a bajillion hours looking for parking (seriously we should have walked), we're finally at the independent to see the dears. They were about to come on stage when poof! the power went out. If they weren't my favorite band right now, I'd declare it a fail and head back on home. They say the lights'll be back on soon, but how soon is now?

Ooh! Murray's going on solo acoustic in the dark, yay!

update: it was amazing. murray did three acoustic songs before the power went back on. also, i've seen them loads of times over the years, but i have never seen them look so happy.

ps: this pic was before murray went on stage, it's me on the verge of pretend tears, lit by the glow of randall's iphone.
