Happy bday dk!

This afternoon Randall and I headed down to the marina for a dk birthday brunch at circa. It was a fixed menu, but the options were tasty, I had the florentine benedict and randall had the breakfast sliders (sans eggs of course). We also had bottomless mimosas. Randall was driving, but don't worry I had his share too.

The gathering was fun, we played catch up with dror and Melissa mostly, as the table was quite long and the bday girl on the other end. That was alright though, I like those two so fun was had indeed. Although next year I call dibs on a seat closer to the bday girl! I was really hoping to get to chat with the novio!

Afterwards I came home and took a champagne induced nap. I'd like to say that more was accomplished today, but well, that would be lying.

In other news, I seriously can't believe Christmas is a week away.

Also, the weather people told me it was going to start raining hard tonight around 10 and I unplanned accordingly. Now I feel a bit lame. Oh well, wouldn't be the first time.

nerd friday: power out edition

Computer Glowthis evening, as i was walking home (in the rain, with some sort of hole in my boot and totally soggy socks), randall texted to me say that the power was out, but that the food delivery had arrived already. it was really sort of strange. most of the power in the neighborhood was on, but there was about a four block radius that was powerless, and we were right in the center of it.

as i walked down the dark streets i sort of loved the odd power-out stillness, and the flicker of candlelight coming from the windows. every house seemed to have that lovely yellowy warm glow. well, every house but ours. while randall had found the emergency candles, he also had several hours of laptop, and the backup ups that was keeping the internet running. so while the rest of the neighbor was silently glimmering, our house was basking in blue laptop glow and an incessant beeping from the ups.

as a child, i always found stormy power-outtages to be fun. they're like rainy day recess for adults. i suggested a board game, but randall wanted to read nintendo power by computer light and watch video game trailers instead. after almost two hours, the ups's beeped their last beep. i thought i was finally going to get my board game, when a few minutes later the power came back on.

my friends, i think it's time for an escape vacation. i think there's a big need for a technology detox.

in other news, dk's bday is this weekend. to help her celebrate, we deco'd her desk up in all red! red everything (even red deviled eggs because she hearts eggs). and then we went to lunch at the grove. elsa scored us the secret alcove, and we managed to fit 8 of us into a tiny space. on a related note, dk is now part of she-bangs! check out those cute little bangs. team haircut!

Catching up in the rain

Dk and I happened to be leaving the office at the same time, so we Aaron Sorkin'd it. Meaning we walked and talked and caught up on the latest news. You know, one side of the office to the other.

Of Mexican feasts and candy soirees

Today I said farewell to one friend and hello to another. First off
was jeff's Mexican fiesta farewell. He's moving on to the NYC office
and today was his last day in the sf office. In fact, it was his last
day in sf for a little while. He was headed to the airport straight
after work. There was quite a posse gathered for lunch, it's as if
people like him or something.

Bye jeff! It's an end of an era, and I can't wait to hear about your
new adventures!

After work dk and I ventured off to michael aki's candy popupshop
birthday party. Aki's party was a candy heaven. There was sour candy
galore, chocolate gummis, mini cupcakes, cream puffs, and the ultimate
in awesome: a cotton candy machine with three flavors. Dk and I took a
turn spinning the cotton candy. We got distracted and when I looked
back, there was a candy mess. I tried to salvage it, but it didn't
really work out. It was just mess on a stick. Dk however managed to
make it work out just nice. She clearly knows her cotton candy spin
better than I.

Sadly I ended up leaving the party a little early. [edit].
It was probably better this way. Had I stayed longer I probably would've
eaten every piece of candy. and well, I had already had my share and then
some. Happy birthday aki! Thanks for the fun shindig. Best party theme ever!

Finally, after an odd taxi ride home (taxi driver talked at me like I
was his therapist) I decompressed and headed to skeeball. At the last
minute, Laura couldn't join Jenny and me, so chris came to save the
day. He's preettty good for a noob and our team score really improved
with him there. Thanks chris!

But now I really must go and brush my teeth. It's been quite a day.

When the sun goes down

The one thing that I hate about daylight savings is how early it gets
dark. Tonight dk and I were still in the office when the sun went
down. This made us both sad indeed. No more post work outdoor happy
hours until spring. I might as well hibernate.

Mad props.

This afternoon Melissa and I made a fun run to daly city. We're doing
a booth at blogher this year, and not to giveaway any spoilers, but
we've got some awesome tricks up our sleeves. These tricks involve
both candy and funny props, and since there's not enough time in the
week, we made a prop/candy run on the weekend.

Originally it wasn't going to be an outing, but then I discovered that
my prop run was near her candy run and so we made a date out of it. DK
texted saying she'd join, but it was too late we were already in daly
city. So afterwards we met her for lunch at nopalito. Yum!

Ps. It's hard to see, but Melissa has on a fuzzy tiara and dk is
wearing Minnie mouse ears.

Field trip and lipgloss!

This afternoon dk, Melissa, and I headed down to menro park for a
social media seminar marketing meeting speech listening mingling
thing. It was somewhat informative but also made me glad to hear that
we're on the right path. It was great to hang out with these ladies
and it makes me so sad that the only way we can do it is if we have to
go to a work thing.

In other news I let a stranger do my lip makeup on the street today.
They looked official and gave me samples and coupons for my fave
lipsgloss, so I couldn't really just walk in by.

Ps. I almost forgot to post today because as soon as I came home I
started emailing and working for a few hours to catch up for leaving
work early. Sux.

insanely addictive.

dk and i have stupid work ethics, meaning we work too much, and lately we've been in the office a lot. the other week we switched our desks around, and now we face each other. this may or may not be the best thing. we may or may not drive everyone around us insane. we may or may not finish each other's sentences.

so why are we working so much? retail therapy officially launches, check it!

Welcome kellan! (and happy bday morm & gma!)

Meet Kellan, she's the newest member of our marketing team. This is
her first week and to welcome her, dk arranged a happy hour outing. I
almost missed it (I worked late, it was a zoo today), but caught the
gang just as they were leaving metropol and heading to the irish bank.
I was on accidental cake diet today, so naturally, I washed it all
down with a bloody mary, because you know, that's totally reasonable.

Welcome aboard kellan!

Ps. Happy birthday to both morm and gma! It's wild, their birthdays
are on the same day.

Pps. Exhausted.

Ppps. The 2 d pic is dk and the infamous eisenberg gals!

The white glove treatment

This afternoon Melissa had us roll up our sleeves and get to work.
Okay we volunteered, but it's not like we would've let her do all this
on her own. You see she had 500 invites for a shopstyle japan event to
fold and then stuff into envelopes. They had to be folded precisely
(two folds for each packet) and then put into perfectly labeled
envelopes. We even got to wear white gloves so that we wouldn't smudge
and smear. Sugar sweatshop at your service!
