Lil' weaver and the social network

This evening the dk and sabs and sometimes Randall movie series headed
over to the variety screening room to checkout the social network.
Weaver was running the screening and Jimmy was meeting us there with
the wine. I'm actually surprised I hadn't seen it, also impressed by
how much I enjoyed it. It's a story I was vaguely familiar with and it
was interesting to see unfold. I also have a special place in my heart
for Aaron sorkin snappy dialogue, which this was full of. In fact it
starts off so fast I almost got lost. Just almost.

Have you seen it? What are your thoughts?

julie julia and sabs

this evening dk, her pal sandy, and i headed out to see julie and julia. i didn't get a chance to eat dinner before hand, and all that talk of food was making me hungry. so when i got home, i immediately pulled the book off the shelf and made myself one of the recipes (don't worry, i will not be making them all).

15 minutes later i was happily eating some eggs poached in red wine and beef stock. i think julia would've been proud, but i'm not totally sure. you see, i cut a lot of corners, and just sort of used her steps as a rough guideline. for example, i didn't measure my butter, i didn't have the red currant jelly so i used guava, i didn't have parsley so i used oregano. it also turned out really friggin ugly -- in fact it was one of the ugliest things i've ever made. -- but it was downright tasty, and got me in the kitchen.

so what do you think? would julia have approved of my improvisations, or would she have been upset by my bastardizations?

haven't had a dream in a long time

i looked over this evening and thought our couch looked rather cinematic. somedays i don't really need more than that.

ps. i saw 500 days of summer tonight, it was really cute and adorable, and sort of not what i was expecting. interestingly enough, it was the unexpected that made it more refreshing.

away we went (unprofessional)

on our way to this week's installment of the dk & sabs & sometimes randall summer movie series, dk and i got into a conversation about age. mostly we were discussing why some people who are younger seem older, and how it's usually because they dress nicer/more professional.

as we were driving to the kabuki (which is by far my fave theatre in san francisco), i started to tell her about how a lot of my mom's friends assume my sister is the older one. i was only halfway through my story (in which the main point is that she dresses more professionally because hello folks, she is a lawyer), when dk flipped down my visor and told me to look in the fucking mirror (especially at my ridiculous glasses, jean jacket and oh maybe my bright yellow fishing lure/80s looking earrings) and told me i didn't need to finish the sentence. we nearly died laughing, dk could barely breathe and could only say  "your glasses..." also, i am pretty sure she was crying tears of joy.

ps. we saw away we go, and i thought it was wonderfully sweet and great. sure there are some cliches, but overall it was solid and adorable and just totally sweet.

A bit of a hangover

This evening deerdree took randall and I to see the hangover. I thought it was really funny and definitely har har har'd my fair share of laughs. Sure there are some offensive things in it, but it never got lame and never relied on crass humor to carry it along. I appreciate that. Also ed helms is fantastic in it. Sure it's the ed helms character, but he was still great.

Beforehand we stopped at the sushi boat place in the japantown mall for dinners. That place (the mall) is so odd. It seems like the place that time is trying to forget.

Ps. I can't believe it's only tuesday

building a better robot trap

tonight deirdre took me, randall, and her pal jimmy to see the new terminator movie (or termie as she's been lovingly calling it). now, you might think -- based on my other movie "reviews" -- that i love all movies and think they're all awesome and worth going to. this is completely false. to prove it to you i will say that terminator was neither awesome nor was it totally worth seeing in the theatre. i was sorta bored (and i have recently fallen into the terminator lore so it wasn't that the subject material bored me), thought it was just one big explosion (especially once you got to the second half), didn't like the way the robots looked (really those large ones look like transformers), and didn't care enough to connect with any of the characters (not even john freaking connor). if you're a diehard terminator fan, then go see it, you'll have fun. if you're a diehard action fan go see, you'll also have fun. if you love explosions and robots (although now that i've written that, i'm sort of wondering who wouldn't love explosions and robots), go and have fun. but other than that, meh, go see star trek again instead.

for tonight's photo, i was going to terminate my face. alas i have no silver pomade or red contacts, or time. so instead of sweet robot skull, you can find me building a better robot trap. i mean if a piece of rope can work for john connor (please don't get me started on that scene or those motorcycle robots), then i'm sure it can work for me.

ps. we had dosa for dinner. the food there never fails to make me happy.

pps. i'm not saying terminator is terrible, i'm just saying that it's not OMG YOU MUST GO NOW I HEARTS IT! on my "would you watch it on a plane scale" i give it a "sure beats another hand of solitaire, but no need to ask the stewardess to wake you up."

up, up, and away

this evening deirdre hooked randall and us up with tickets to up (the movie). originally she and melissa were supposed to come with us, but dk couldn't get out of a meeting, and melissa was feeling sick.

well folks, it was their loss. i LOVED this film. it is my new favorite pixar film, and so much fun. and i loved how they weren't your typical heroes -- crazy old man, fat asian boy scout, talking dog, and a giant bird -- quirky in a good way, and never annoyingly so. sure the plot was ridiculous and has a couple of random holes in it, but the house with all the balloons looked incredible, and it is a cartoon folks! also it might have made me wellington... okay i confess it totally made me wellington. i could not believe how sweet and sad the beginning was, but we'll just leave it at that so that I don't ruin it for you. just go see it. it was fun and adorable. if you have kids and they want to see it, take them, it'll be worth your while. i mean come on folks, talking dogs! and not in an oh the dogs are randomly talking cartoon way!

while out i was hoping to stick deirdre's face on a balloon and set it on "up" but sadly, they didn't have any balloons for us. because of that, we had to make due. here's us with her in the theatre.

ps. sorry melissa, i couldn't get the printer to work, so wasn't able to print out a picture of you. also, dk got the tickets so well, you know...

live long and prosper my friends

who would've known that dk here was such a nerdz? apparently she's a big ol' trekkie fan, and so she secured us some seats to the new star trek. and i'll just go ahead and nerd out right along with her because it was freaking awesome. i loved it, and i loved how they can start an entire new franchise without worrying about continuity, and i loved the casting and i just thought it was fun fun fun. i'll stop there so that i don't ruin anything for the rest of you.

aftewards dk and i tried to strike a live long and prosper pose. i think we've got some work to do.

ps. i wanted to really nerd out for you, but my bangs are not freshly shorn. i think you can put two and two together. maybe someday you'll get lucky.

pps. lucy and co. were going tonight as well, i thought maybe i'd see them, but it was an imax theatre and those are huge. oddly enough she sat down in front of me.

ppps. i forgot to mention it, so i'm adding this in now. i LOVED the future/semi-scandinavian styled clothing of the vulcans. there was at least one sweater i wanted to make, and 4 other things i wanted to steal. that's all.
