last night, we found ourselves one block from the infamous Lombard Street, and Randall mentioned that he'd never driven down it before. Naturally we made up for that and drove down it right then (it was past 11 and the line was gone). Once we were done, Randall told me that while Lombard was more picturesque, he was positive that Vermont felt windier. I tried to make him take me then so we could see, but he said we should wait until the morning, especially because he didn't think all this windiness went with all the wine i had been drinking.

So we went today, and according to wikipedia (which, as you know, is never debatable) Vermont is indeed more "crooked." You can see for yourself:

this evening the thirtieth issue of the bayfarer hit the (faux) newstands. this time around the "reporter" i worked with wanted to do a piece on how a radio works. we had way too many pages of research to plow through, but in the end we had an illustrated numbered diagram on how it works.

i'd have taken a pic of my "reporter" for you, but that whole we're not supposed to have contact outside of the workshop rule probably also includes a don't exploit their little faces clause. however he did tell me that he had a facebook and lots of friends. i think this might mean that facebook is officially over?

ps. i wore this ruffled sweater today even though i though the dress also has ruffles on the top and the sash. it was sort of a ruffle overkill and kind of bothered me all day, but oh well.

sticks and stones may break my bones but words with friends will never hurt me.

thanks to dk and lizzy, i am hooked on the app words with friends. if you haven't heard about it, you should fix that problem. essentially it's a version of scrabble that you can play with other people over the course of time (editor's note: that last part was added because lwisne is a smart ass). the best part is that you can have multiple games at once. it's nice because you don't have to play until you're ready to.

so, i guess what i'm saying is, download the app and let's play. my username is pocketpig.

tonight was the first session for 826 valencia's bayfarer issue 30. it's a 5 week newspaper writing workshop for 8-12 year olds, and i've volunteered to tutor. last time my reporter (they're reporters, us adults are editors) was the nerdy straight A overachiever student. This time i was paired with the rowdiest kids in the class. they couldn't sit still, they couldn't focus, and they had absolutely no idea what they were going to write about. the other two boys at the table couldn't stop laughing, and the other girl was the quietest person i've ever met. seriously she was like this loud. it was almost like she could only mouth words and had no vocal chords. she was cute though, i can't wait to see what she writes. can't wait to see what they all come up with.

A while back, morm gave me this shirt. I think she got it when she was
in Taiwan last, but I'm not sure. To be honest it might have been
samshrew who gave me this shirt. Either way it's part of my awesome
pile which contains things that are too awesome (aka unprofessional)
to wear on a regular basis.

Now many people think this shirt says "It's a party time" but I like
to think it says "It's a party t' me" which is like "to me" meaning we
should have a party for me.

As for the other text, I have no idea what it means. And quite frankly
I think we'll be partying too hard to care.

growing up, i never had any freckles. maybe a few here and there, but never enough to be a freckled kid. these days it's a completely different story. my face is littered with them, and more are cropping up each day.

in addition to these little spatterings, i have also developed a few moles. now i am definitely positive i didn't have any of these as a kid. these buggers are all from my adult life, and now they're making me worry. see that fatty a bit below and to the left of my ear? i swear to you it is growing. it's itchy, and after a day in the sun it is now peeling (i was wearing 85 spf folks, 85!). this strikes me as not good. which is why i spent way too much time trying to make an appointment with the determatologist in order to have it looked at and possibly removed. i called five places and the closest appointment was in two weeks (the one i want to go to is in a month). and i don't know about you, but i think two weeks is too far away. surely this mole will devour my face by then. mark my word. devour.

julie julia and sabs

this evening dk, her pal sandy, and i headed out to see julie and julia. i didn't get a chance to eat dinner before hand, and all that talk of food was making me hungry. so when i got home, i immediately pulled the book off the shelf and made myself one of the recipes (don't worry, i will not be making them all).

15 minutes later i was happily eating some eggs poached in red wine and beef stock. i think julia would've been proud, but i'm not totally sure. you see, i cut a lot of corners, and just sort of used her steps as a rough guideline. for example, i didn't measure my butter, i didn't have the red currant jelly so i used guava, i didn't have parsley so i used oregano. it also turned out really friggin ugly -- in fact it was one of the ugliest things i've ever made. -- but it was downright tasty, and got me in the kitchen.

so what do you think? would julia have approved of my improvisations, or would she have been upset by my bastardizations?

I rounded out the weekend with a little nap and then some tennis.
Despite the fact that the golden gate was already covered in fog at
2pm, the weather in sf managed to stay warm and summery and I wanted
to take advantage of it. Actually, tennis was randall's idea, and that
fact surprised me more than the weather, so I definitely took
advantage of it.

We played for at least a half an hour, maybe more. It's hard to keep
track when you're not keeping score. Mostly because we suck
(especially when we try to do anything fancy) and the score is always
love all.

not that i had anything better to do...

but i didn't expect to spend part of my sunday on the phone with the sheraton chicago. seriously, the place was really nice, and everyone super friendly, but communication, especially regarding billing and checkout and internet, just seemed lacking. actually lacking's not the right word, more like a who's on first sort of thing. also if the credit card on file doesn't have enough digits, isn't that something they should've mentioned to me before i checked out?

anyways, it's not like it ruined the day or anything -- i'm just bitching -- i mean i still managed to do nothing, eat foods, and sleep a lot.

ps. i was going to show you a picture of me in these sweet mom jeans, but well i am apparently too vain for that (for the record, they're normal gap jeans, and i used to like them, but they've faded to a weird "blue jeans" color, and fit sort of differently than they used to and now i think of mom jeans everytime i wear them).

my backyard missed me so much, it gave me a present. i didn't want it.

went out to water the plants and saw this guy passed out in the corner. i have no idea how he died. hopefully it wasn't the swine flu.

worst part is randall is out of town and so i had to do the "man of the house" job and deal with it myself. what good was getting married?
