iceland dreaming

i've had a bit of trip fever lately. i just want to hop on a plane and jet off somewhere.

sadly, the economy doesn't seem to agree with these notions, and so i just have to revel in my old trinkets instead. this particular hat came from a trip to iceland. sure it's kitschy and stereotypical, but i love love love it. and i might add, it does keep my head quite warm.

ps. it's difficult to see the frizz in this photo, but believe it or not i took the effort to blowdry and straighten my hair this morning! *sigh*

muracci's gets a big thumbs up

angelica and i recently found a new (to us) amazing lunch place called Muracci's. It's a nice hearty japanese curry place, although i prefer the oyako don (chicken with egg) bowl because it is so delicious. the place apparently moved into our neighborhood in march, but it took us until october to discover it. the reason we went in was because of the sign. we were walking down the street trying to figure out what to eat when i saw a line coming out of a tiny door and a sign with a big thumbs up. i figured any place that advertises itself as a thumbs up has to be good right? a long line doesn't hurt either.

so we went in and braved the line, and it was well worth it. it's definitely one of the best lunches in the area. the only problem is the line, it's often really long. i think we waited 40 minutes last time. but today we went a little bit earlier, and there was no line. we walked in and ordered and 10 minutes later we had bowls of delciousness. now you all know the secret.

ps. my eyebrows are getting out of control, i know.

pps. how come my eyes are so freaking panda these days? where are these bags coming from?

ppps. i know, my mouth should've been a different smile, but i didn't want to make angelica and kristy wait while i took pics of myself on the street.

one smart cookie

last night was a pretty amazing food adventure, our meal at manresa took five hours. that's right, five. we arrived at six, and left at eleven. it started with madelines and ended with them as well. you'd think after a five hour meal i wouldn't want to eat again, but here i am the following day planning a wee dinner party. what is wrong with me?

in addition to making dinner I decided to whip up a batch of snickerdoodles. i usually only make chocolate chip cookies, but thought i'd branch out and try something new. besides, the cinnamon seemed fall-festive, and although the weather has been pretty nice, it's hard to ignore the season when it's completely dark by 6pm.

oh and for the record, i hate it when we lose daylight savings.
