about 4 decembers ago, i started making a scarf for randall for christmas. i'm generally a pretty quick knitter and thought i'd have it done in no time. the thing is, i didn't anticipate how much i would hate knitting it. it's a 1x1 rib stitch with a thin mohair yarn that gets all over the place (translation to those of you who don't speak knit - it's annoying and tedious to make and is only going to shed all over everything). and i just don't know why, but i hate making it. i got about halfway through it that first december, couldn't take it anymore and put it away. randall got something storebought for christmas that year.
fast-forward to the next december, i figure it's half way done and that i might as well finish it. i pull it out of its box, do another 25% , get bored and knit a bunch of other things instead.
fast-forward to the december after that (this would be last year), i finish all but the last 2 inches, complain about how much i hate it, get ridiculously bored of it and even though it was almost done, i put it away.
fast-forward to yesterday, i told randall that it was chilly outside and that he might want to grab a scarf. he says to me, too bad i don't have the one you never finished.
guess what he's getting for christmas this year?
