every day's a new dumb adventure

it's beginning to look a lot like christmas

well at least in one corner of the office. kellan thought it would be fun if we all brought in holiday decorations, and before i moved desks i offered up a static cling gingerbread house. we never hung them, so when i stopped by to say hello we decided to take a break and decorate. if you look closely, you'll see we accidentally hung the house upside down the first time. good thing it's static cling.

in other news the games team did a group lunch to welcome our new team members. apollo tried to take an overhead pic of us all in the elevator, but he had an iphone photo fail. gwah gwah! obviously we'll all just have to cram in the elevator and try again.

still working.

it's 8pm and there's a handful of us still at work. this is maybe causing some flashbacks to the tiger team days (only i have much higher confidence in this than i did that), and i'm wondering why i'm still here.

also, i think i just ate cookies for dinner.

ps. that's elsa waving. she's the bestest. that's bsugar working his butt off to make sure she gets what she wants. except for the non-solid color thing. he's fighting her on that one.

ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking

today the gals over at geeksugar were raffling off a fancy herman miller embody chair. they reviewed it a long time ago, and finally needed to clear out the space. we all put our names next to a number, and then a random drawing later, yours truly was the winner! dk told me to wear "those ridiculous glasses" because they matched the back. and well, who am i to not oblige?

also yes, i am pretty sure i am in a muumuu today. maybe lawrence is right, maybe it is time for an intervention.

happy 1234567890!

in case you didn't know, and chances are pretty good that you did not, today marked 1234567890 day. It's a nerd thing, that link gives you more info, but if you still don't get it, don't worry. Just remember this rule - there is never a bad reason to host a party.

Luckily Kristy and Dhatt (seen above) know this, and threw us a last minute party. Here's an excerpt from the email that was sent out:

If you remember the huuuuuge parties for 1000000000 in Copenhagen in 2001, you know this is a time worth celebrating. What’s that mean for you? Boxes full of mystery Valentines chocolates in the geek pit, along with complimentary beer from the fridge (or a soda- we’re generous).

I have to say. This place is pretty geeky and totally fun sometimes. thanks guys!

so um, yah... did you celebrate?

the house on craft corner

today, while on the bart, i realized that i don't have a large project in my life at the moment. the last few years have been lots of planning and preparing - a trip or three here, a wedding there, a city move over there, and a new career move times two. the current lack of something to do is making me antsy. i feel like i should be doing something with my time. something good. only i don't know what.

so until i figure it out, i make random shit. yesterday my pals at bellasugar posted something about knitted headbands. i've been wanting to make one, and this seemed like a good excuse. so i went home, made up a pattern, and a few hours later, ta da. i made this.

Here's the prototype pattern. It needs some work. Mostly it needs fewer stitches and a better ribbing. My fat head is about 24" around, so I cast on 96 stitches of a worsted weight wool (if I do it again, i'll probably only cast on 80) on size 10.5 needles. I [knit 8, purl 8] to end for 3 rows. Then i did a stockinette stitch for 10 rows, then i did [knit 8, purl 8] for 3 rows and bound off. Then i sewed up the edges and crotched a random flower. Finally i sewed the flower over the seam to hide it. It could be better, but like i said it's a prototype.  just make sure the ribbing matches up (although i would recommend a ribbing of 4 instead of 8, i thought the 8 was too wide) and whatever you do will be fine.

ps. if you have any ideas on good things i should be doing, let me know. if not, i will keep on crafting and continue my downward spiral into oldladydom.
