hold the sun

this morning wes, juju, mimi, and jacek came into town to see dave's movie hold the sun. it's his feature length debut, and it was premiering at the asian american film festival. but before the movie, we all met up for brunch at moussy's. i'd never been there before, and while it was cute and had bottomless mimosas for $15, the food wasn't very memorable. it was tasty, but nothing to go out of the way to eat. what was memorable was the awesome artwork wuwu got me and the delicious macarons mimi & jacek brought. happy belated birthday to me!

after brunch, we all drove over to new people (where the film was being screened) and checked out all the kitschy stuff. we also checked out the artwork in the gallery (i especially loved the stuff by sidney pink) and made sure to make a quick stop at the heated toilet seats (no really, they have the fancy loos there). once we were done with the kitsch, chris, who was there working the festival, let us know when it was time to get the best seats.

the movie wasn't your typical story. in fact, i'd argue there wasn't much a story at all, more like vignettes into vaguely connected lives. visually, there were many gorgeous scenes, and the park avenue music/hearts + horses soundtrack just really makes it that much better. here's cute lil' dave, all embarrassed by the attention.

and then here's a photo of randall from today, just because.

Ooh la la la pals

The weekend has begun. Tomorrow is the karen shin wedding extravaganza, but today is for pals.

After work we ran a bunch of errands, walked a sushi dog, napped, and then met up with scottel (who's in town for the wedding bonanza) and anneh. We ended up grabbing food from the new french truck (think taco truck but with stuff like skate cheeks and escargot puffs) and then heading across the street for wine at terroir. The food was pretty tasty (although it got cold quickly), but the atmosphere at terroir was bleh, think techno dance club music and jerkface bartender (if it's just a wine bar, is he still a bartender?).

Afterwards we met up with the very best wes and juju for some more sfpopfest fun. Also they are pals with the folks in ballboy so we are hobknobbing with the band.

Ps. I am totally gonna karaoke tonight.

Pps. I am going to try and attach two photos via bberry. Let's see what happens.

Ppps. Sorry wes, someone can photoshop you into one of these pics.

in which we kidnap maho & snappy and pretend we're still 6

this afternoon we all hopped on bikes and drove around portland. i called trike - i thought it was kitschy and fun, but little did i realize it was harder to drive and i would have to exert more energy. i also almost crashed, but we're not going to talk about that.

after lunch our bike gang rolled up to sbritt's house. he was too busy for us, but we kidnapped his sweet wife maho and their cute little puppy snappy. we then went to the local park and terrorized the childrens. now we're going to go crash a kid's birthday party. i dare say, i think you can see a pattern emerging.
