every day's a new dumb adventure

i forgot to give it a title (nerd sunday)

some sundays you wake up, throw on sweats, and sit around all day. then there are the sundays where you wake up, throw on your regular clothes, walk down to delicious brunch, wander about, come home, throw on sweats and then sit around all day. today was one of those days. randall and i ate at ike's, and then we added on a few hours of video-gaming fun. because well, we are nerds, and sometimes nerd friday spills over thru the whole weekend.

i ruined the fun family portrait (but here's sushi)

because i had the macro setting on still from when i was taking pictures of sushi dog, so it's all blurry but my big ol' face.

this morning sam, chris, randall and i went down to the shanghai dumpling king. it was just so-so, i don't understand the wait. the soup dumplings were good because they're soup dumplings, but they're not great. and the dirty dishes and mediocre service aren't really worth it.

what was worth it was picking up sushi and walking down to the presidio. i tried to put a treat on her nose and have her wait before eating it, but she wasn't having any of it. i couldn't even get to the put it on the nose stage.

thanks for the fun kids!

ps. here's the closeup pic of sushi after she'd been digging in the dirt.

smile pretty for the camera

i've had my digital slr for over four years now (has it been five? no one can remember). i heart that thing, but i definitely don't baby it. in fact i'm pretty tough on it and often pick it up with grubby hands, shove it into my giant purse where it mingles with crumbs, and all sorts of other things that would make most photographers faint. which is why i'm trying to figure out why i've never taken it in for a cleaning before. the poor baby needs it.

so today i did the right thing and brought it in for a good scrub. now i just have to wait for him to come home. until then i'll just imagine the pictures i can take once it's all cleaned up. say cheese!

ps. we were supposed to make this amazing tomato orange soup tonight, but we didn't buy butter because we always have at least one box in the freezer. however when we started to make the soup, we realized we were wrong, there was no butter at all.  total soup fail.

it's great to get the band back together

despite a ridicuous journey yesterday (which included a 3 hour ride in the cab of a tow truck) it is fun to be here in pdx. we've spent the day hanging out and eating, and doing a lot of nothing - including a hasty game of scrabble. it's been great to get the band back together. you know, figuratively speaking since we never were a band.

from left to right we have myself, tuttle, wes, randall, juju and scottel.

ps. they service place is looking at the car tomorrow. we're keeping our fingers crossed that everything will be fixable in a day. if not i guess we're gonna live here in pdx for a while. what happens if it sucks us in and we never leave? i've heard it happens to people.

a bear of very little brain

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!

yes, i wore this hat to work on public transportation. and yes, i continued to wear it while in the office (it was freezing in there today!). and yes, i am 30. and yes, i know this is the reason my mom's friends say that samshrew has a more sophisticated style than i do. and yes, i made weird noises while taking these pictures (it was something between a hiss and a growl, i only gave it 75%).

and no, i am not in a cast, those are lacy fingerless gloves and everyone thinks it's a cast and with some forethought i probably would have bought a different color. and no, i am not really in the woods, those are weird decorative pieces of wood that i put in our foyer.

and no, i am not ashamed of myself. i mean, you only wish you had this bear hat.

ps. when i open my mouth to do a fake yell or scream, my tongue always presses up against the roof of my mouth (this is the underside you're looking at). that's weird, no?

proof that the weather in sf is so ridic

i have a tiny ill-managed garden in my backyard. this past summer i managed to grow some herbs, strawberries, tomatoes, and cucumbers. everything grew and i harvested throughout the summer, ending in early september. at this point -- because my garden is ill-managed -- i just left the plants there in various stages of "dead." the cucumber plant was particularly brown and sad looking.

so imagine my surprise when a month ago, some new little guys started growing. in fact these look even more delicious than the last few of the summer. how is it that i harvested cucumbers in early november? oh san francisco, your wacky weather never ceases to amaze me.
