every day's a new dumb adventure

this is what happens when i get bored

i have a hard time sitting around. don't get me wrong, i am really lazy, and i like doing "nothing." thing is, i always feel really guilty about it. so instead of just sitting around enjoying a movie or tv show, i feel the need to do something else. multitasking if you will. it's the main reason i picked up knitting. normally i'm pretty content to do that, but i'm in the middle of a big project that doesn't really much to the imagination (so much that i actually set it aside for about a year). so instead of knitting, i've started sewing again. only the problem is, a sewing machine is quite loud and doesn't really work as "something to do while sitting around like a lazy log." which brings me to my latest project, this necklace.

i'd seen a few things like it at anthro, urban, and etsy, and thought i could do something similar. and after i found this tutorial i had no excuses. after all, all i needed was a t-shirt and scissors, plus a needle and thread (but that was only for the rosettes). i'm pretty thrilled by it, and it came out even better than i thought it would. plus, look, so versatile! now i need some more free t-shirts so i can make more. not sure why i need more than one, but i'm kind of hooked on making these. plus they're easy peasy to put together (in theory it should take 20 minutes, in practice this one took over an hour).

sidenote: anyone else watching treme? thoughts? i'm 4 episodes in and am not sure yet. i'm liking all of the characters and their stories, but i sort of keep wondering what's going to happen.

i can't seem to follow directions

after last night's necklace item came out all wonkle, i decided to do a crochet one instead. i found this pattern online, but naturally, i didn't bother reading it. i'm sort of impatient that way. i'm not sure why i do this, but i do it all the time. i look at something and say, "oh i can do that" and then just go and do it. most of the time with limited success.  if i'd just take 5 minutes to read the manual, maybe things would turn out better. but you know, then i'd have to read the manual...

ps. we met alejandra and margaret at bossanova for dinner. the food was pretty tasty, but wtf? they had a suspended liquor license! how are we supposed to get our delicious caipirinhas fix?! especially sad since we chose it mostly for the drinks. gwah gwah.

Wait a Second, Do You Even Have a Working Record Player?

Sadly, the answer to that question is no for both of us (that's Annie in the background). And yet here we are, flipping through a bunch of 7" records like it's 1997 (or is that 1977 - which it just might be based on my outfit). Anyone need some Cupid Car Club?

oh and all those CDs in the background? folks still buy those too. isn't that novel?

ps. it was nice to meet you Annie's pal Matt

pps. go to Alembic, they have great drinks, and then stop and check out all the fun art currently at Giant Robot. it's great fun.
