every day's a new dumb adventure

common knots and their signs

i spent this evening at 826 helping my reporter walk through the steps of how a radio works. between his short attention span and my sleepiness, the situation nearly caused my brain to melt out of my ear. teachers, i respect you. i always think kids are sponges who can sop up anything, but as i learned today, that's not necessarily true. still, i had fun, but man my brain is spent.

and ta da a smile, because more than anything else, i'm sick of looking at my pathetic sad face.

ps. in case you missed it, i posted the 100 best songs of the decade yesterday. tell me what i missed.

Natural smiles

After work dk and I decided to grab dinner and a drink. She actually
had a bottle of white burgandy in her trunk and so we had that while
we ate burgers at kezar. I love that she just has wine in her trunk.
I'd write more, but wine makes me sleepy, so it's naptime before bed.

Home in my own la cocina

After a truncated week, this work week felt like it took forever.
Going from two days to five is harsh and really took it's toll. So did
the staying up late and reading each night, but that's beyond the point.

Tonight I planned on going to the la cocina gift fair, but i was just
feeling cranky and whiny and tired, and ended up going home. But first
dk drove anneh and I around. It was like high school I heart it.

Once I got home I nerded it by devouring some take out Thai food and
watching some movies. Now it's time for a nap. A Friday night nap
before bedtime. Man my life is nerdtown.

Ps. I also now wish I went to la cocina, but whatcha gonna do?

catching a little shut eye

i can't seem to stop yawning. all week long my mouth has been gaping open like i'm sort of flycatcher. my brain is in apparent need of more oxygen, and my body would like a little more sleep. and who am i to deprive myself of what i need?

after dinner, i sat down to read (it was still light outside) and the next thing i knew it was several hours later, dark, and i was only 2 pages in. randall apparently thought my idea was a good one and joined in too.

sometimes i love lazy nights at home.

this is what is known as domestic bliss

after the last few weeks of go-go-go, i felt i earned myself a day at home. i had been secretly hoping that the weather would be crap like it was yesterday so that i could justify my actions, but it wasn't. however, that didn't stop me. i took a few hours to clean up the house, do laundry, watch glee (my cold heart thought it was a lot of fun, but will wait a few episodes before i make a final decision), and then go into my end of weekend take care of myself routine, which includes nail polish and curlers.

folks, it is a glamorous life i lead, i know.

ps. we got this painting at a re-gifting/white elephant swap party we had a few years ago. that's right someone didn't want these cuties. their loss is my gain.

travel the world and the seven seas

i couldn't sleep last night. not sure why. i was wide awake at 4:30am. i just woke up, i couldn't even remember my dreams.

now i'm sitting here barely mobile, and thinking about the time i got this mask. it was probably 8 years ago on flight to or from england. crikey, was it really 8 years ago?

the difference between napping and sleeping

i looked it up and napping is to sleep lightly or briefly, and sleeping is the state of being asleep. a few of the resources also state that sleeping is several hours, and that napping is usually during the day.  so what is it if it's several hours of solid sleep in the evening?

after a week of non-sleeping, and a truly fun but exhausting weekend, i was tuckered out. i came home from work, sat down with the latest sunset magazine, and then the next thing i knew, randall was eating a late dinner, and telling me that i'd been sleeping too long to be napping.

so was i napping or sleeping? you tell me.

and nine hours later, it's as if we never left

it's hard to believe we woke up in scottel's house this morning. this whole weekend has seemed like an unreal blur, and now that i'm back at home i barely can believe it happened.

when we left scottel's house, randall was behind the wheel, but a little while later i took over. i didn't get a chance to take a picture in the car (it was raining pretty hard, i was driving, and randall was sleeping and couldn't play photo assistant), so i figured that i'd give you an awesome recreation. this face was the one i had when i was being blinded by the wall of rain and fog and forgot that i had sunglasses at arms reach. also i was pretty sleepy. see the whole too many types of drinks thing from yesterday.

ps. we made it home in just over 9 hours. not too shabby. it's because i was driving fast, just like this picture here demonstrates.
