every day's a new dumb adventure

80 years of meyerdom.

randall's grandma clara turned 80 today. for someone her age, she's really quite vibrant and active (not to mention fashionable). to help her celebrate, randall's dad arranged a surprise lunch followed by poolside cake and ice cream with the entire meyercrew. it was, believe it or not, the first time the entire meyercrew had gotten together in over 10 years. (let's just say there was some rift that i don't really know the details of but hey looks like it's patched now).

it was fun to see everyone, their family dynamic is so different than mine and it's always interesting to compare the two. my family competes to talk over each other, while randall's has moments where no one says anything. body language is also different, but one thing is the same. i think they genuinely like seeing each other, even if they weren't 100% looking forward to it to begin with. you know, just like my crew.

happy 80th birthday clara! i hope to be nearly as vivacious as you at that age!

be a petite ninja warrior, but model

i love wednesdays. wednesdays mean i go over to anneh's house to watch a ridiculous hour of top model. meg joins us when she can, and it is usually an awesome good time. tonight it was even awesomers. if you happened to watch tonight's episode, you'll know that the gals got dressed up like "ninjas" - we figured we could do the same and slathered some makeup on and took some pics. lucky for us meg was shooting other stuff earlier, so we actually had a light rig set up.

have i mentioned that i love wednesdays? and these ladies. love these ladies.

ps. if you watched the episode you'll know that we did the pixelation on purpose. har!

it's been a hard day's night

the other day randall and chris were talking about Beatles rock band, and randall mentioned that he had ordered it. i had no idea and was surprised to hear that we were going to own it. randall wiggled out of that one by telling me he was buying it with the change we've been collecting for the last couple of years, and that because of this, it was like we were getting it for free. i didn't really buy into his logic until i read the Wired article about BRB (sadly not online). after that, i was psyched and couldn't wait until it arrived.

well guess what? it arrived. and you can only bet that this nerd friday will be beatles themed. are you game?

haven't had a dream in a long time

i looked over this evening and thought our couch looked rather cinematic. somedays i don't really need more than that.

ps. i saw 500 days of summer tonight, it was really cute and adorable, and sort of not what i was expecting. interestingly enough, it was the unexpected that made it more refreshing.

as amer'can as i can be

the sf skies are still gray, but we're going to live the american dream and keep on doing what we do. impromptu bbq at 3! happy fourth of july everyone!

ps. this was my fave holiday as a child. it probably has something to do with a military childhood upbringing and parades involving guns and peacekeepers and baton twirling and hot dogs and potato salad and tons of money wasted on fireworks, particularly sparklers.

say, what you havin' rick?

after work, molly, dk, kjell, and i went to check out a new bar near our office. it's called rickhouse (named after the warehouses where whiskey barrels are aged) and it's from the folks behind bourbon and branch. it was also packed, and had a 28 page menu that included a table of contents. i had a delicious drink that was mixed up by a bartender in an old-timey outfit. in fact all the staff were in old-timey outfits: ties, vests, button up shirts, pomaded hair, and moustaches. molly remarked that the bouncer might want to wear a different outfit. i had to agree. it's hard to take him as a person of power. me however, i'm sure i look like a pillar of authority.

so say, what'you havin'?

ps. julie - sorry if you showed up and we were already gone, we tried to order a second drink but it was taking far too long to get any of the old-timey bartender's attention so we left.

i choose you pikachu (no peeking heidi and grant)

a few years ago randall and his co-workers were at dave & busters for a night of company hijinx. while there they pooled up their tickets and won a gigantic pikachu. pika hung out in randall's cube for a while, but when he left the company he brought it with him. unfortunately a house in san francisco is not nearly as big as a house in the suburbs, so poor pika's been locked up in storage. well that part is behind him, and now it's time for him to shine. you see a few weeks ago heidi tipped me off to the fact that abigail has suddenly become a big pikachu fan. her birthday was the other day and we're off to see her tomorrow. guess what she's getting?

pikachu, i choose you!

ps. happy birthday b.sug.

my what big hair i have (aka wolf it down)

this morning (which was lost to the quarterly wtf was i thinking i can't drink coffee without going crazy cup of coffee) was delightfully warm. it was also a crazy ghosttown feeling (what is everyone sick or out of town?). because of these two things melissa and i decided we should actually take a lunch and eat outside. we ended up grabbing sandwiches and headed over to the park 3 blocks away. here is where i was insulted by a crazy homeless guy wearing a conference badge.

he approached us and asked if we were planning on eating our entire lunches, and if we weren't could we leave him some. we told him we thought we'd eat our whole lunch, and then he left us to bother the girl on the next bench. about 20 minutes later, he came back to see how we were doing on the lunch. we told him that yes we were eating it all and if we weren't we'd let him know. he didn't leave, instead he yelled at me, "so what, you're going to wolf that all down?!"

yes sir, i was going to wolf it all down.

ps. if you could not tell, this is my 10:30pm after beeroclock and dinner out wolf makeup. pretty convincing don't you think?

pps. why do i think i need to invest in a pair of fake pointy teeth?

travel the world and the seven seas

i couldn't sleep last night. not sure why. i was wide awake at 4:30am. i just woke up, i couldn't even remember my dreams.

now i'm sitting here barely mobile, and thinking about the time i got this mask. it was probably 8 years ago on flight to or from england. crikey, was it really 8 years ago?

Ole!

this gringo here is wishing you a feliz cinco de mayo!

after work randall and i met anneh at papalote for tacos. we picked it because their amazing salsa was calling my name. in hindsight we should've gone somewhere with margaritas, micheladas, or tastier tacos. that's right, papalote's tacos let me down. next time i want a gringo taco i'm off to the chihuahua, that's pretty much all there is to it. although really to celebrate cinco de mayo, we really should've gone somewhere more authentic.

ps. do you see the freckle in my eye?
